Nelson Mandela was one of the greatest leaders in the world. He was born in Transkei, South Africa {#blank#}1{#/blank#} July 18^th, 1918. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} bad news! He died on December 5^th, 2013. He died at the age of 95. Nelson Mandela was an important person all over the world.

    When Nelson Mandela was young, he went to school and studied at school. In the 1950s, almost all black people didn't go to school. Only a few black people had rights {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (go) to school. Nelson Mandela was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (luck). He went to school and finished his schoolwork {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (successful). After {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (graduate) he became a lawyer.

    Nelson Mandela {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (elect) President in 1994. He became his country's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (one) black president after spending 27 years in prison. He loved his country and served it with all his heart. He tried to bring people of different {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (race) together. He once won about one hundred prizes. The most important prize was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} Nobel Peace Prize. He won the prize in 1993.

    It was getting dark. Some children and two Canadian women were still skating near a big hotel. They {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (have) a great time.

    “A boy said to his friends,”I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (not skate) on a real lake so far. It's wonderful! Look! I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (fly)!" Suddenly the ice broke. One of the boys fell into the river. The children shouted, "Help! Help!" They didn't know what they  {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (do). The two Canadian friends heard them and skated over to help the boy.

    The ice were not thin enough. The two Canadians fell into the river too. But they tried their best {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (save) the little boy. They knew they were quick, or the boy would be frozen.

    Many guests from the hotel came over and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (run) to help. The boy and the two Canadian women were out of water at last. One of the women {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (not feel) well. She {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (send) to hospital at once. She felt happy because the boy was safe.

    Karen is my good friend．She is a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} girl and she {#blank#}2{#/blank#}to be thin．So I help her change (改变) her eating {#blank#}3{#/blank#}．She can only eat healthy food and she must play sports． It's not easy, but it's  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}for her．Next week is her {#blank#}5{#/blank#} I think I can buy a volleyball for her because she  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}volleyball．

    Every night in Jinan University in Guangzhou, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}play diabolo (空竹) as a crowd watches in amazement.

    Chen Zhelun, 25, a Malaysian-Chinese started the diabolo club, which helps to increase the popularity of this traditional Chinese game. He is one of many students expressing their interest in the country's cultural heritage (遗产) by {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

    The diabolo, which came from China, is popular among Chinese living in Malaysia.

    "We played diabolo from primary school onward. I thought I could find someone {#blank#}3{#/blank#}in China, but only a few students knew about it. So I started a club to develop it," says Chen.

    To Chen's surprise, the old game has interested a huge crowd—more than 1,000students have joined the club.

    "It {#blank#}4{#/blank#}and it's fun," says Chen.

    But some prefer quieter activities. Every weekend, one classroom in Shenzhen University is always crowded, but it's unusually silent. The members of Lanting Calligraphy Club are writing Chinese characters with traditional brushes.

    As head of the traditional Chinese local operas club, Kong Yanquan plans to put modern elements (元素) into traditional culture to get students to join his club.

    "I think it's everyone's duty {#blank#}5{#/blank#}China's traditional culture among young people," he says.
