There is an elephant and a monkey. They're friends. But one day they want to know who is stronger （更强壮）. One of them says, "Who can get apples from the tree across the river, who is stronger."The monkey says, "I can't swim." The elephant says, "I can swim. Please sit on my back."Thus they go across the river. The apple tree is very high. The elephant can't reach the apples on the tree. The monkey climbs（爬）up the tree and gets many apples. Now they know they should help each other.

Zhou Dao's grandfather has a hearing problem. During a family party last year, Zhou Dao noticed something. His grandfather sat quietly by himself. The old man was unable to join the talks.

Zhou Dao was sad about this. "Grandpa always reads subtitles (字幕) to watch TV," he thought. "Why can't we put words on our talks?" Then, Zhou Dao began working on that idea. He spent about half a year developing a kind of smart glasses. These smart glasses help users "read" spoken words.

The glasses are connected to a smartphone. There is a microphone on the glasses. It records audio (录制音频) and sends it to the phone. A piece of software turns the audio into words. People can see the words on the glasses.

This allows users with hearing problems to understand others during the talks well. Now Zhou Dao's grandfather can wear the glasses and speak to someone else face to face or over the phone.

Zhou Dao was happy to help his grandfather. Slowly, more and more people in need can wear this kind of glasses.

Have you ever heard of the facechanging, or "bian lian" in Chinese? Facechanging started 300 years ago. Now it's popular in the southern part of China. It's an important part of Sichuan Opera. While the actors are performing, you can see different feelings and characters through their face masks(面具). It's said that ancient people painted their faces to drive away wild animals. Later, Sichuan Opera makes this ancient skill become its own part and turns it into an art.

In modern Sichuan Opera, many skills are used to change masks, and they have been passed down only within theatre families. In the beginning, opera actors changed the colors of their faces during shows by blowing into a bowl of red, black or gold powder(粉末). The powder would stick to their oiled skin quickly. In this way, actors could change their faces in just a few seconds.

In modern Sichuan Opera, actors wave their arms and turn their heads, and their painted masks are changed again and again. Full­face painted silk masks are often used by modern actors. They are so thin that actors can change about 10 masks in 20 seconds. Actors change their masks with a hand or by turning their heads.

No matter how many times the face­changing is shown in Sichuan Opera, you can find people lost in wonder every time. And don't be surprised when you see the facechanging of Sichuan Opera on the street of a foreign country. The traditional Chinese art is getting popular around the world.

Hi! This is my first post(帖子). I'm Mary. I'm fourteen and I live in New York. I have two brothers. Mark is twelve and Stephen is sixteen. My father is a teacher, but not at my school. My mother is from Canada and she works in New York. She's a photographer(摄影师). 

My grandfather, grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins are also in New York. My mother's family are in Canada— her parents, her brother and sister. So I have family there, too. 

Our house isn't big, but I have my own small bedroom. I have photos, posters, two chairs and a bed in my room. And I have a desk for my computer. Mark and Stephen's bedroom is big with two beds and a TV. They have a bookcase for their books and video games.
