Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu Festival, is a traditional holiday, which {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (observe) each year over 2,000 years in China to honor Qu Yuan, an ancient Chinese patriotic（爱国的）poet. Originating from south China, Dragon Boat Festival enjoys higher{#blank#}2{#/blank#}popular) in southern areas, such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Guangdong Provinces. With a history over 2,000 years, it used to be a day{#blank#}3{#/blank#}people would use herbs（药草）to drive away diseases. However, the most popular origin is closely related{#blank#}4{#/blank#}the great poet Qu Yuan in the Warring States Period. Composing masterpieces like Li Sao, he was regarded as one of the greatest{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(poem) in Chinese history. After he was exiled（流放）by the king, he had no alternative but to choose to drown{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(he) in the river rather than seeing his country conquered by the State of Qin. He died on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which is{#blank#}7{#/blank#}people decided to commemorate（纪念）him on that day{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(annual).{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(remember) his death on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, people celebrate the festival in{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(vary)ways.

     On many campuses, it has become a trend for a host of students to participate in various {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(activity). Involved in some positive ones, students find them quite {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(benefit) and rewarding.

     A case in point is the English club {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the activity of learning benefits me most. In contemporary world, English learning has gained great popularity and it is {#blank#}4{#/blank#}great importance for students to learn English well. However, I {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(meet) a variety of difficulties in study so far. For instance, I have trouble {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(memorize) words. Sometimes, it is also difficult for me to understand the rules of grammar. Although I can read and write, I cannot express myself freely in English.

    The giant panda loves bamboo. An adult panda requires 12.5 kilograms of bamboo, which it{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(hungry) pulls out with its powerful paws, to satisfy its daily needs. Wild pandas live only in the high bamboo forests of Central China. These mountain forests are cool and wet--just as pandas like it. In the summer, they may climb as high as 4000 meters to help themselves to bamboo {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（grow) at higher altitudes. Frequently, pandas{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(see) eating in a relaxed sitting position, with their back legs stretched out before them.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} they may appear inactive, they are in fact skilled tree-climbers and efficient swimmers.

    Giant pandas are unsociable. They have a highly developed sense of smell that males use{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(avoid) each other and to find females for mating in the spring. After a five-month pregnancy, a female gives birth {#blank#}6{#/blank#} a cub. The blind baby pandas weigh only 142 grams and cannot crawl(爬行){#blank#}7{#/blank#} they reach three months of age{#blank#}8{#/blank#} are born white, and develop their much loved coloring later.

    There are only about 1000 giant pandas left in {#blank#}9{#/blank#} wild, with perhaps another 100 in zoos. Because they are so rare, much of{#blank#}10{#/blank#} we know about pandas comes from studying these zoo animals.

    One morning, I was waiting at the bus stop, worried about {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(be) late for school. There were many people waiting at the bus stop, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} some of them looked {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(disappoint). When the bus finally came, we all hurried on board. I got a place next {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the window, so I had a good view of the sidewalk. A boy on a bike {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(catch) my attention. He was riding beside the bus and waving his arms. I heard a passenger behind me shouting to the driver, but he refused {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(stop) until we reached the next stop. Still, the boy kept {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(ride). He was carrying something over his shoulder and shouting. Finally, when we came to the next stop, the boy ran up to the door of the bus. I heard an excited conversation. Then the driver stood up and asked, “{#blank#}8{#/blank#} anyone lose a suitcase at the last stop?” A woman on the bus shouted. “Oh dear! It's {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(I).” She pushed her way to the driver and took the suitcase thankfully. Everyone on the bus began talking about what the boy had done, and the crowed of strangers {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(sudden) became friendly to one another.

Linqing City is connected to Beijing, over 400 kilometers away, through its tribute(贡品) bricks. Linqing tribute bricks, or Gong Bricks, were transported to the country's capital through the Grand Canal for the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (construct) of historical buildings like the Forbidden City. Local people call the type of brick a legend {#blank#}2{#/blank#} flows from the Grand Canal. This "legend" {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(list) as an example of national cultural heritage on June 14, 2008.

Linqing sits at the confluence (交汇处) of the Weihe River and the Grand Canal, making transportation very {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(convenience) .

During the Ming and Qing (1368-1912) dynasties, Linqing was a large important city {#blank#}5{#/blank#}a population of over one million. Linging tribute bricks earned their reputation during the Ming Dynasty, when they were {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(wide) used for imperial buildings. Apart from the transport links, the quality of the brick is one factor to make {#blank#}7{#/blank#}famous.

The "Lianhua" soil in Linging is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}ideal raw material for bricks. The city is located in the plain of the Yellow River. So when the Yellow River floods, there will always be a layer of fine sandy soil {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(cover) the local soil. Over time, a layer of sandy soil and a layer of clay will form an overlapping structure, known as "Lianhua". Linging tribute bricks {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(make) of this soil will not be out of shape easily.
