Most of us might want to do some great things to help others in need. But I found it's not completely(完全地)right.

I'm Wang Ling. This is a true story that happened(发生) to me last Sunday. That day, I planned to go to a bookstore. On the bus, I found that I only had a five-yuan note(纸钞). The bus driver didn't want to wait for me and was going to leave.

Then I looked around and went up to a grandma for some change(零钱). "I'm sorry," the grandma said. "I have no change, either." Just then, I really didn't know what to do. 

"Come here! I can help you," a young man smiled and said. He looked friendly. Then he gave me one yuan. When I was going to give my five yuan to him for the one yuan, he said, "I'm happy that I can help you. You don't need to give me the money. Just keep it."

With thanks, I put that warm coin into the money box on the bus and then sat near the young man. Yes, he seemed not to help me a lot. But his sunny face and kindness were always in my heart.

Wang Ming is 13 years old. He lives in the countryside in Suining. Today is his birthday. His parents make a nice dinner for him, but he says, "I don't want to have the dinner because my parents will leave me after the dinner. I don't want to let them go."

Wang Ming has the birthday with his parents for the first time in the past eight years. Eight years ago, his parents went to Fujian to work. They stayed and worked there.They have to go back to Fujian tomorrow. Wang Ming is not the only stay-at-home child（留守儿童）.In the country of China, there are many children staying at home without (没有) their parents. 

Stay-at-home children have a lot of problems. Most of them stay with their grandparents. Some of them don't study well because their parents can't help them with their study. But most of them study hard and are good with their classmates at school.

The Chinese government now is trying to solve their problems.

A British woman used an ancient Chinese invention to help her son deal with a modern problem. 

Dr. Rashmi Mantri grew up in India. She was taught how to use an abacus to solve math problems when she was a little girl. After noticing her son Dhruv had great difficulty with math，she started emploving the same ancient Chinese tool to help him after school. 

In just six days，Dhruv started to show rapid progress with the abacus. He enjoyed learning on it because it was like a game. He started to learn fast and would go on to become an excellent student in math. Surprised by the progress，teachers asked Dhruv to perform with the abacus at a school meeting，where some parents even came to ask for advice on using it to help their kids. 

Known as the Fifth Invention of Ancient China，the Chinese abacus helped people so lve all kinds of math problems in ancient China and is still used today. People find that using an abacus can also improve thinking and practical abilities. In 2013, the Chinese abacus was officially listed as an intangible cultural heritage of human beings(人类非物质文化遗产). "The abacus becomes a playing tool for younger children. It feels like a game. I think the success comes because children can touch and feel an abacus and picture it in their mind. "said Dr. Mantri. 

①Celebrating the New Year happens in every country. But each country has its own way of celebrating it. 

②Chinese people celebrate the New Year twice(两次). One is on 1st January and the other is in January or February. People have many activities to celebrate the New Year, like watching lion dances or having a family dinner. 

③People in Thailand(泰国) celebrate it by pouring(泼) water on friends and visitors. They think this will bring much rain in the next growing season. Their New Year is usually in April or May. It is very hot at that time of a year in Thailand. 

④In Switzerland(瑞士), people often sing in the ice and snow world to celebrate the New Year. In parts of Switzerland, people celebrate it by dressing up to walk from farmhouse to farmhouse. They jump up and down to make the cow bells ring. They hope this will sweep away the bad luck of the old year. 

⑤People all over the world have a great time on New Year's Day. 

Taking public transportation（公共交通） in the United States, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I rarely （很少的） see people reading during their free time. 

Are people's attitudes toward reading different here？Not really, Data （数据） released by Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e﹣books over regular books. 

However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the US than in China. Is there a reason for this difference？I'm not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature （文学） （From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms（《三国演义》） to the modern science﹣fiction books The Three﹣ Body Problem（《三体》）, Chinese writers have created many fantastic written works. Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not fell like reading for fun. Chinese students definitely （肯定） have to read more and do more homework than US students. So it's no wonder that they might not want to read much in their spare time. 

But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot imagine. Even just a single book has the power to change your own beliefs and attitudes. Where will your next book take you?

I'm a 14﹣year﹣old boy. My parents always ask me not to waste things in my daily life so I often write on both sides of paper and after I wash my face and hands，I often use the water to water flowers or clean the floor. And I often ask my classmates to do these like me.

I'm an artist and I enjoy recycling art. Look at this model plane. I use some waste paper and boxes to make it. And I often keep my old clothes and use them for cleaning. I really hate wasting.
