新目标(Go forit)版初中英语七年级下册Unit 12 What did you do last weekend第3课时Self Check

根据短文内容填空,每空一词。

Dear Helen,

How's everything? I'm glad to get your letter. You asked me what I did last weekend. Now let me tell you. Last weekend I went to a forest with my parents. We left for the forest by car early in the morning on Saturday. When we got there, it was about 11:30 a. m. We had some rice and vegetables for lunch. After lunch, we had a short rest. In the afternoon, we went fishing by the lake. We caught some small fish. At night, we put up our tents and camped in the forest. It was exciting to sleep in a tent! On Sunday morning, we rode horses, flew kites and fed sheep. After lunch, we drove back home. We were tired but happy.

How about your weekend? Please write and tell me.

Yours,

Jessica

A big earthquake happened in Japan in March, and it caused tsunami(海啸).Thousands of people died and millions of Japanese lost their homes.
Do you know there is an earthquake every thirty seconds in the world? But don I worry because most of them arc so small that they cannot be felt. Only a few hurt people. Many earthquakes happen in China, too. Arc you ready for the next earthquake? We havesome advice for you on how to keep safe in an earthquake.
When the earthquake happens, protect yourself first. The life is the most important becausewhere there is a life, there is hope. Don't go back to get your money or other things.
If you are at home, hide under a desk. Stay away from windows because anythingmay fall on you.
If you are outdoors, try to move away from buildings and streetlights. They may fall on you. If you are in a shop and far from the door, don't run outside. Everyone will run outside so that people may hurt each other. Hide under a desk. Don't get into a lift during an earthquake.
If you are in a moving car, drive to the side of the road, stop as quickly as possible, and stay in the car. Do not try to drive across bridges. It's dangerous.
When an earthquake has ended, be careful because aftershocks(余震) may still happen. They are just as dangerous as the earthquakes, so stay under the desk until you think it is really safe for getting out.
Make sure you wear shoes after an earthquake. There may be broken glass on the ground.
Remember, these tips are very important. We should always hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

How do people find their inner talent (潜力)? British author Kenneth Robinson talked about this at TED. He told the story of Gillian Lynne, a dancer and a choreographer (编舞者) who has worked on many famous musicals (音乐剧).

Gillian Lynne never did well in school as a child. She couldn't sit for long and often found herself moving restlessly (不安地). Her mother was really worried about her. She took Lynne to a doctor and told the doctor the problems Lynne was having in school. Then, the doctor said to Lynne, "I need to speak to your mother first. Wait here."

As they left the room, the doctor turned on the radio. He then said to Lynne's mother, "Just stand and watch her." Later they found Lynne start dancing to the music on the radio.

The doctor then turned to Lynne's mother and said, "Mrs. Lynne, your daughter isn't sick. She's a dancer. Take her to a dance school."

So the mother did. Lynne found there were many people like her in the new dance school. They all had to move their bodies to think. Lynne later went to the Royal Ballet School (皇家芭蕾学校) one of the world's greatest dance schools, and became a great dancer, she worked on some of the most successful musicals in history, such as Cats and Phantom of the Opera (《歌剧魅影》). It is hard to believe that years ago, somebody else would just put her on medication (药物治疗) and tell her to calm down.
