    Every year, wildfires(野火) destroy much forest land. homes are broken down, and thousands of people die. smokejumpers are stop helping to stop this.

    Smokejumpers are a special kind of firefight. they jump from planes into areas that difficult to reach by car or on foot. they race to put out fires as fast as they can.

    At a fire site, Smokejumpers first examine the land and decide how to fight the fire. their main goal is to stop fire from spreading. using basic tools such as shovels and axes, smokejumpers clear land of burnable material like plants and other dry material. they carry water with them too, but not much.

    Although most smokejumpers are men, more women are joining. Most important are your weight and height. Smokejumpers in the U.S. for example ,must be 54 to 91 kilograms, so they don't get hurt when they land, or get blown by strong winds.

    Smokejumpers must be able to live in the wilderness. in Russia ,many smokejumpers know how to find food in the forest and even make simple furniture from trees.

    They work is dangerous, the hours are long. But for these firefighters, smokejumpers isn't just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fight fires, and live in the forest. As 28-year-old Russian smokejumpers Alexi Tishin says,“This is the best job for the strong and brave.”

    Once upon a time there was a poor woodcutter who worked very hard every day. He had a son and his name was Herman. The old man saved some money and sent his son to university.

    But the money that the father gave his son ran out after two years and Herman had to come back home. The old man had no more money. Herman said he would stay and work with his father.

    The next day Herman went to the forest with his father. Though he had never done such work before, he worked well. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}Herman took his bread and said he would go a little farther into the forest.

    Herman was so happy with the bright sunshine that he walked and walked. Suddenly he heard a voice, "Let me out! Let me out!"{#blank#}3{#/blank#}There was something in the bottle that looked like a small budworm（青虫）. It jumped up and down shouting, "Let me out!"

    As soon as Herman opened the bottle, it jumped out of the bottle and began to grow. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}"Thank you, young man," he said. "Now it's my turn to help you. "

    The giant gave Herman a piece of cloth（布）. "It is unusual," said the giant. "Put it on a stone, and it will turn the stone into gold. "

    At 7.40 when Mrs Fang is at breakfast, there comes a call. Twenty minutes later, she is with Ann, because Ann cannot stop her baby from crying.     Then Mrs Fang gets her second call that day. She goes to the home for the old. There she works with the old people till 2.00 p. m. One by one, she answers their questions and helps them take their medicines, while the doctor takes care of other more serious problems.

    Mrs Fang keeps hurrying around all day and sometimes she can be rung up even late at night when the sick must be helped. She is busy, but she likes her job and enjoys helping others.

Rock climbing（攀岩） did not become a sport until late in the 1900s. But now it has become a popular outdoor activity. While rock climbing may still be necessary for mountain climbing，most people just climb low mountains for fun. 

If you have ever done rock climbing，you will know that it is not a very easy sport. Indoor and outdoor rock climbing both need practice. What most people don't know is that rock climbing is one of the sports that depend on your body and mind（意志）. 

To climb successfully，one must use wonderful skills. One of the important rules is to always have three parts of your body on the rock face. Another important rule is that your arms only hold you close to the rock face while your legs are pushing you up，the closer you are to the rock face，the easier it is to climb.
