On June 8, 1936, five X-36 planes took off from Maine to England. The group was part of a campaign launched to support allied(同盟的)aircraft numbers in Europe to fight the German Nazis. Nearly 700 aircraft successfully went through this secret flying route, "Snowball Route", stopping to refuel in secret airbases located in Greenland. However, the five X-36 aircraft met with a severe storm that misdirected the crew and forced them to burn precious fuel. The aircraft were forced to crash land on the ice cap of the Arctic and all were buried under ice later.

70 years later eight engineers seeking the remains of the X-36 aircraft discovered an object in the shape of a plane buried within the ice cap. They used radar to look into the ice. To confirm the object located by the radar was an X-36 plane, they used a thermal probe(热探针)to cut a hole through the ice to a depth of 350 feet. Upon bringing it back, they found something red covering the probe that later proved to be a kind of liquid used in this type of aircraft.

Plans are underway to free the lost X-36 from the ice and, if possible, rebuild it so it can once again take flight. It may be the second time that an X-36 has been reborn from the ice. In 1995, the resting place of an X-36 was found by members of the Greenland Expedition Team. They then cut a cave around it. Over the course of several months, the plane was dissembled. Although it took a long time to finish the job, it was much easier to handle the separated parts. Thus, the aircraft was eventually brought back to the surface. Then much repair work made the X-36 fly again.

The resting site of the newly discovered X-36 plane presents another opportunity to bring back a piece of history. Thanks to the great funding support from the governments of the US, Greenland and the UK, it's a project that could begin next summer.

(1)、Why did the' five X-36 planes take off on June 8,1936?
A、To explore the ice cap of the Arctic. B、To attack the German Nazis unexpectedly. C、To strengthen the allied air force in Europe. D、To protect the secret airbases near the Arctic.
(2)、How did the eight engineers confirm the object's identity?
A、By observing its shape B、By analyzing its location. C、By taking advantage of the radar. D、By checking the material obtained.
(3)、What does the underlined word "dissembled" in Paragraph 3 mean?
A、Identified. B、Repaired. C、Taken apart. D、Pulled out.
(4)、What can we learn about the X-36 plane discovered by the eight engineers?
A、It is of great value to the world. B、It was reborn from the thick ice. C、It will have been freed from the ice by next summer. D、It would cost a large sum of money to repair it.

A Kickstarter launched Friday will allow interested parties to set up a camera and pet toys in their home for anyone to play with their pets remotely. It's called the ipet Companion, an Internet-connected camera and device that streams video online and allows basic commands from people watching. They can move the camera, look at their pet and press a button to swing a toy around.

Obviously, demand is strong. The Kickstarter proved so popular that Scott Harris, iPet Companion's founder, said that thousands of people started asking for it.

The reason why people keep talking about this is the emotional(情感的) connection they have from a thousand miles away. If you want, you can enter a queue to move the camera and play with the pets. Each room has toys that are hooked(钩住) into Internet-connected devices, and you can move them by pressing a button.

But there's sort of a problem: Pets get bored easily. Young pets will stay more interested than adult pets, but finally even a baby pet will get bored, too. To stop that from happening, you'd better limit the pets' access(接近) to the boys and change the place where they're located in the room.

Harris understands this and said you can plug anything into that adapter(适配器) —toys that you can get on your own. And that's where the iPet Companion really gets interesting. Harris explained that the device is actually sort of a Trojan horse to bring the “Internet of things” to more homes. You don't really have to use it for pets. The adapter could be used for any device with an electrical plug—a sprinkler, say, that you'd be able to activate to water your grass.

“Our whole goal, our whole purpose is to let anyone control any physical object that they want to while they travel anywhere in the woorld,” Harris said.

A cellphone is one of the few things that we hold close to our faces all the time, and yet it could possibly explode - this is what made the recent Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 smart-phone accidents so shocking.

According to technology news website The Verge, flawed(有瑕疵的)phone batteries might be to blame.

Even if you are not a science student, you probably know that it is common sense that the anode (the negative(负的)end of the battery) and the cathode (the positive end) should never touch. If they do, the battery will short-circuit(短路), causing a powerful electrical reaction that can destroy the battery and cause a fire.

This is why all lithium-ion(锂离子)batteries - the kind that can be found in many of our devices like tablets and cameras - have a separator layer inside to stop the two ends from touching one another.

But somehow, the separators in some of the Samsung phones broke, causing explosions.

Overcharging is another problem that can make batteries heat up quickly. Fortunately, most batteries are designed to be able to automatically stop charging once they are fully charged. But again, this somehow failed to happen in some of the Samsung phones.

The two “somehows” may sound random(随机的)and hard to explain. But they actually both come from the fact that phone producers have been pushing the limits of batteries to meet customers' demand for a longer battery life.

According to Lynden Archer, a materials scientist at Cornell University, US, we have already achieved 90 percent of the battery life possible from a lithium-ion battery. Customers' demand that their devices get thinner has also given producers little choice but to try to put more power into thinner batteries.

“The more energy you put into a box, the more dangerous it's going to be,” Billy Wu, a lecturer at Imperial College London, told The Guardian.

A thinner battery also means producers have to use thinner material for separators, and thinner material has more chance of breaking.

These days having a best friend seems so important to girls. However I have learned that having one best friend is not the way to go. It's so much better to have many great friends.

As I was coming into Middle School, I was really excited because my friend Jennifer was going to be in the same Middle School! At first things were great, she introduced me to her friend Amy and we had lots of fun together. Then things started to change. Jennifer was very controlling: I couldn't make new friends, and pretty soon being Jennifer's friend was a struggle.

Jennifer wanted to be the "leader" of our little group. Amy and I were never partners with each other in class projects or gym; it was always, "Who gets the privilege(特权) of being Jennifer's partner." Amy and I both wanted to be Jennifer's number one.

I always waited for Jennifer and Amy after classes. They chatted by Jennifer's desk as Jennifer packed her books up and I waited by the door. Sometimes when they left, they'd walk right past me. No "Thanks for waiting." No "Sorry we took so long." It was as if they couldn't even see me.

After months of living through school this way, I had really changed. I was moody, depressed, lonely. I spent lots of days trying not to cry, I felt so left out.

Finally, near the very end of the school year, I was so incredibly sick of having to battle for friendship. I stopped sitting with Jennifer at lunch and stopped waiting for her after class.

It was tough at first, but now, I have tons of friends. We have fun and happy times together and I love them all to bits. It amazes me how easy our friendship is. There's no struggling to be on top. I wish Jennifer could understand. Maybe one day she'll look back at what happened and she'll change, but even though I lost a friend, I am a happier person.
