    Change is scary.It can go hand in hand with the fear that we might hurt someone else if we think about ourselves. The truth is that you're so much more courageous than you give yourself credit for and far stronger than you realize. Here are some ways that you can use to help yourself make the process of creating change more manageable.

    Make change into small bite size pieces.Remember that as long as you attempt to take regular practice towards your goal, such as eating more healthily every day, or walking twenty minutes a day, you're heading in the right direction to make changes.

    From a habit of keeping a diary every day .Writing a journal every night before going to bed can effectively help you cope with the emotional impact of the change process. Go to grab a pen or pencil and remember a journal is not for being neat and tidy with good spelling.

    Rest is necessary to success. Have a rest and take timeout to build your energy.If we don't give ourselves time to rest, we just end up burning out by the constant striving and worry. As we don't have the energy to keep going, we have to give up!

    Just accept it! I'm sorry to say that unless some people are really secure in themselves and truly happy in their own life, they're never going to like your changes. This has nothing to do with whether they love you or not. They are just for self-preservation! Therefore, give them a little time to adjust and get used to it.

A. It is a step into the unknown.

B. It's not being lazy to have timeout.

C. No one else is going to like your changes.

D. Don't try to eat the elephant in one sitting.

E. Creating change is about building your character.

F. Keep repeating your big steps over and over again.

G. It's a private place where you can speak out your inner thoughts.

                                                                         What Is Emotional Eating?

But when done a lot — especially without realizing it — emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overallwell-being.

    Not many of us make the connection between eating and ourfeelings.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} One of the biggest myths about emotional eating is that it's caused by negative feelings. Yes, peopleoften turn to food when they're stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious, or bored. But emotionaleating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharingdessert on Valentine's Day or the celebration of a holiday feast. Sometimesemotional eating is tied to major life events, like a death or a divorce.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Emotional eating patterns can be learned: A child who is givencandy after a big achievement may grow up using candy as a reward for a jobwell done.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} It's not easy to “unlearn” patterns ofemotional eating. But it ispossible. And it startswith an awareness of what's going on.

    We're all emotional eaters to a degree.But for somepeople emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious weight gain orother problems.The troublewith emotional eating is that once the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelingsthat cause it remain.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}That's why it helps to know the differencebetween physical hunger and emotional hunger.

    Next time you reach for a snack, wait and think about which typeof hunger is driving it.

A. Believe it ornot, we've all been there.

B. If a cryingboy gets some cookies, he may link cookies with comfort.

C. One studyfound that people who eat food like pizza become happy afterwards.

E. Understandingwhat drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it.

F. Boys seem toprefer hot, homemade comfort meals, while girls go for chocolate and ice cream.

G. More often,though, it's the countless little daily stresses that cause someone to seekcomfort in food.

    Do you know how to pick a good book you'll really like? Here are some tips.

    Find a Family Favorite. Which book did your mother love best when she was at your age?{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Find out and give them a read — then you can share your thoughts about the book.

    Finally, you'll probably enjoy what you're reading a lot more if you find a quiet place and make time for the book.{#blank#}5{#/blank#}You can put on some good music, get yourself some tea and let yourself be carried away by the book. You'll see that time does fly when you're reading something you love!

A. How about your brothers and sisters?

    Radar is an electronic device that detects planes, ships, coastlines, landmarks, and even storm clouds. The name radar comes from the first letters of the words radio direction and ranging. As the human eye uses light waves to see, radar “sees” with radio waves. Without radar, planes could not land safely in bad weather and ships could not move safely in thick fog{#blank#}1{#/blank#}

    In the 1800s it was discovered that radio waves could be reflected from objects. But scientists did not make great advances in radar research until the 1930s, when the world was threatened by war{#blank#}2{#/blank#} It has been used widely in almost every conflict since then.

    Echoes make it possible for radar to work. When a beam of radio waves is sent out, it strikes on an object and returns an echo. This echo is picked up by radar and recorded on a screen similar to television screen. On the screen an observer sees a flash, or a blip, that shows the direction and distance of the object.{#blank#}3{#/blank#}

    Airport control towers use radar to guide planes in for safe landings. Almost all large ships depend on radar to prevent collisions with icebergs or other ships{#blank#}4{#/blank#}Weather forecasters “see” the size, direction, and speed of storms on radar screens. Astronomers can even use radar to measure accurately the distance to the moon. Thus, the device has generated major advancements.

    {#blank#}5{#/blank#}Huge radar antennas have been installed all over the United States. They guard us against possible enemy attacks. We have ballistic—missiles (战略导弹)warning systems that can alert us to attacks when missiles are more than 1,000 miles away. Other radar systems warn us against enemy aircraft and even spying space satellites.

A. Police track speeders in radar-equipped cars.

B. These measurements are now highly accurate.

C. The device can be used in a wide range of fields.

D. It is therefore especially valuable to shippers and travelers.

E. During World War II many countries used radar effectively.

F. Today radar is used by commercial airliners and weather forecasters.

G. Strengthening national defense is one of radar's most important functions.

How to Recognize a True Friend

Sometimes it can be hard to recognize a true friend. Hopefully this article will help you recognize which friends are the keepers.

    {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Think about it. How comfortable are your friends when they are around you? Are they being themselves around you? Are they acting fake or perhaps hiding something? True friendships can take a while to develop, but if your friends are true they should feel comfortable around you, and vice versa (You with them)
