    The story began with his 6-year-old daughter. One day they were going on a hike when the girl noticed a {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (break)plastic tub(浴盆)in a river. She said, “Daddy, that doesn't go there.” That took Kirschner by surprise.     Artist Song Peilun is known{#blank#}1{#/blank#}"The Father of Yelang Valley" after spending the last two decades turning a village into an artistic village.

    Yelang was an ancient political centre first{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(describe) in the 3rd century BC, and it was centered in{#blank#}3{#/blank#}is now western Guizhou Province, China. Experts believe that many ancient{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(culture) were rooted here,{#blank#}5{#/blank#}there are unfortunately no buildings left standing in the great valley. Inspired by Crazy Horse, a mountain monument in the US slate, Chinese artist Song Peilun devoted his life to building a memorial to the artistic culture of Yelang Valley.

    It was in 1996{#blank#}6{#/blank#}Song quit his job as a professor and purchased a 200,000 square meter plot of land in a mountainous forest area. Then he began to follow his dream.

    When he first arrived in the area, most of the locals{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(mine) in the mountain and selling the stones to make ends meet，but he convinced many of them to help him instead.

    So far, Song Peilun and the villagers{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(turn) the forest land that he bought into an artistic village full of stone sculptures,{#blank#}9{#/blank#}were inspired by Chinese Nuo culture. It is now a{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(relative) popular tourist attraction.

    On September 11, 2001, Omar Eduardo Rivera, a blind computer technician (技术员), was working on the 71st floor of the World Trade Center with his guide dog {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (name) Dorado. When the hijacked (被劫持的) plane hit the tower, Rivera knew {#blank#}2{#/blank#} would take him a long time to escape from the building, but he wanted his lovely dog to have a chance {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (get) out so he set him free in the crowded stairwell. "I thought I was lost forever—the noise and the heat were {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (terrify) —but I had to give him the chance of escape. So I touched his head, gave him a push and ordered him to go," Rivera said.

    The art of paper-cutting in China may date back to the second century, since paper {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(invent)by Cai Lun in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. As paper became more affordable, paper-cutting became one of the most important {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(type) of Chinese folk art. Later, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}different regions using their own cultural styles, this art form spread to other parts of the world. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(usual), the artworks are made of red paper, as red is connected with {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(happy)in Chinese culture, but other colors are also used.

    Chinese papercuts are rich in content. The auspicious(吉祥的)designs symbolize good luck and the avoidance of evil. The child, lotus(莲花)and bat designs suggest a family with {#blank#}9{#/blank#} large number of children and grandchildren. Birds, livestock, fruit, fish and worms are also familiar objects {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(accept) by Chinese farmers. In a word, papercuts used in different occasions have different meanings.
