Tom is a young man. He eats and sleeps a lot,1works a little. He doesn't like to learn, so he 2little. He can't do any difficult work, so he has to look 3 an easy job. One day he finds a job on a farm. When it's work time, he always says he's tired and4So he gets less money than the others.5 is coming. The workers are getting ready for the next year. Only Tom does 6. The farmer tells him to cut down trees in the forest. The young man goes there with a 7. He feels terrible in the forest and 8 about the animals. So he looks around and sings loudly.     John worked in an office in a small town. One day his boss1him, "John, I want you to go to London, and to2Mr. Black. Here's the address. His office is near the station. "

    John went to London3train. He left the station and thought, "The office isn't 4the station. I'll find it5. "

    But after an hour he was still looking for it, so he stopped and asked an old woman. She said, "Just go along this street, and turn left6the end, and it's the  7building on the right. " John went and found it.

    8days later, John went to the same city,9again he couldn't find the office, so he asked someone the way. It was10old woman! She was very surprised and said, "Are you still looking for that place?"

    Long ago, there was a queen 1 lived in a palace. She felt 2 and said to her advisor (顾问), "All the things around me are too boring. I need a different kind of beauty. Let everyone3 that I will hold a competition for the most beautiful thing in the world. And the prize 4 this crown."

    Most parents send Care packages(包裹)and gifts to their Children when they're away at university. Terri Cox, from Leonardtown, Maryland, isn't one of those 1.

    A few weeks ago, Terri sent her son 18-year-old Connor, who's now 2 at Westminster College in Pennsylvania, a package. 3 Connor first got the package, he thought it was a usual gift filled with necessities(必需品).

   "I was 4 because it's like Christmas when you get gifts from 5 especially when you're in College," he said.     Everybody hates rats. But rats may soon be man's new best friends.

    What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue (援救) dogs. Why? Because they can smell people. Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find living people. But dogs are big and they can't get into small space. So now a new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives: the rat.

    How does it work? First, the rat is trained to smell people. When this happens, the rat's brain gives a signal. This is sent to a small radio on its back, and then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When the rat's brain activity jumps, the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.

    Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are better. "Robots' noses don't work well when there are other smells around. Rats are good at that," says a scientist. Rats can also see in the dark. They are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs, and unlike robots, they don't need electricity.

    The "rat project" is not finished, but a scientist says, "It would be fantastic. A rat could get into space we couldn't get to and a rat would get out if it wasn't safe." Perhaps for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building (but only after an earthquake, of course).

The animals were talking for hours. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}to agree on the best location for their house. As they{#blank#}7{#/blank#}，a wise old bird flew down to them and asked them what the position was. 

The animals explained their{#blank#}8{#/blank#}to the bird and the bird listened carefully. After thinking for a few moments，the bird said. "My dear friends，you all have your own points，but you are forgetting one important thing. You are a team，and as a team，you must work together to solve this problem. "

The bird advised them to build their house in a place that was in a hole in a tree，that was in the middle of the forest and{#blank#}9{#/blank#}to the river. 

The animals listened to the bird's advice and worked together to build their house in a place that{#blank#}10{#/blank#}all their needs. From that day on，they worked as a team and never argued again.
