阅读理解

As a middle school student of Xiangyang City, You must know that the P.E. exam has become more and more crucial in Xiangyang. It makes up 30 points of the whole points of the high school entrance exam in Xiangyang City. But lots of students in Xiangyang City don't care more about sports. So I'd say: Don't begin exercising until you enter Grade Nine or before the exam! Start now!

This year, in middle schools in Xiangyang City, students might have to run 1000 meters for boys and 800 meters for girls if they want to pass the high school entrance exam. They are timed(计时), and many students compare their times with others'. They find that it might be difficult for the students who haven't got enough exercise to get to the finishing line within the given time, sometimes they even have to finish by walking! Students who are out of shape are out of breath after running! If they can't finish the running within the given time, they will get poor grades.

For the 7th and 8th grade students, I think you still have plenty of time to get interested in sports. There are many different sports to try. As you know, the P.E. exam could include football, basketball and volleyball in the coming years. Make sure you can find some sports that interest you!

There are many advantages to get fit! You will feel better and look better. You won't have to rush to get ready for your P.E. exams when you become a 9th grade student. The most important is that you won't be trying to catch your breath while other students go quickly past you in physical situation and life!

It is easy for many people to catch a cold in the springtime or fall. It makes us wonder if scientists can send a man to the moon, why can't they find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are actually different cold viruses out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn't a cure for each one.

When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it Blood rushes to your nose and causes a block in it. You feel terrible because you can't breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature goes up and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting into your cells. You may feel very uncomfortable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.

Different people do different things to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for example, people might have chicken soup to help them get over the cold. Some people take hot baths. Other people take medicine to stop different symptoms(症状)of colds.

There is one interesting thing to note一some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn't have a way to fight it and kill it Bodies can do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this:

It takes about one week to get over a cold if you don't take medicine, but it takes only seven days to get over a cold if you take medicine.

I'm not much of a crier most of the time. But {#blank#}1{#/blank#} when I was reading a book on a plane, I started crying. Of course, it came as a big surprise when tears came up, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't {#blank#}2{#/blank#} myself.

Oh no, not this now. I thought to myself. But even as the thought entered my brain. I felt the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} hot drop of salty water coming down my face. I put my head down, hoping that I could go on reading.

In fact, the harder I tried, the more tears pushed their way out of my eyes. You could guess how surprised the man next to me looked.

My head {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in shame. He must think I was crazy. Maybe I could turn towards him, hold up the cover of the book and say in my crying voice. "I'm sorry, sir. It's just a really good book!" But I didn't, say anything. Instead, I just put my head back against the {#blank#}5{#/blank#} and let the tears run. Do you know what decision I made while I was crying? My decision was that it was OK if he thought I was crazy. I preferred to be crazy instead of being the kind of person who wouldn't cry when the situation called for it, or who wouldn't let {#blank#}6{#/blank#} feel anything at all.

I've been that girl who has spent so much time trying to make sure people didn't think f was crazy. But now I don't want to be that girl any more —that bored and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} girl. I'd rather {#blank#}8{#/blank#} this girl who is able to forgive (原谅), love and act, even if it means being disappointed or being hurt again and again.

 Passage D·

"Military-style" travel has become the latest fashion among Chinese college students, who spend as little money as possible to travel to as many places as they can during the weekend, hardly taking a break or even sleeping.

To save money, they usually catch a normal-speed train on a Friday night, arrive at the destination city on Saturday morning, travel around in the city, sleep at a 24-hour restaurant for a few hours on Saturday, then repeat the same busy schedule on Sunday before returning to their university in time for classes on Monday morning. These young travelersare less concerned with in-depth(深入详尽的) experiences and more focused on checking off popular tourist destinations on their schedule.

Hu Die, a student at Inne r Mongolia University of Technology, is one such traveler. She put together a 10-day holiday during the recent May Day holiday period and traveled to six cities.

On April 26, she took a high-speed train to Beijing and then from Beijing to Tai'an, Shandon g Province, to climb Mount Tai. To save money, she spent 4 hours climbing up to the mountaintop rather than using a cable car. After watching the sunrise from it on April 27, she visited Dai Temple at the foot of the mountain. She then went to Jinan in the afternoon, visited Daming Lake and Quancheng Square in the evening, and on the morning of April 28 went to Baotu Spring and Heihu Spring. She traveled to Zibo to enjoy the famous barbecue in the city, went to Yantai and Weihai before May 4, when she arrived in Luoyang, Henan Province. There, she visited the Longmen Grottoes and then returned to her school on May 5.

Most people can hardly imagine how she traveled extensively in only 10days. "We do not think we are doing something ‘crazy' or ‘amazing'. We are young and energetic enough to experience such a tight travel schedule, "she said. "Moreover, when you travel with your friends, you are happy and you do not feel tired. "

Videos of them taking such trips have been posted on social media platforms, such as TikTok, Red, with much praise for their energetic spirit and high ability to achieve their plans. Others, however, question whether such a busy schedule is healthy.
