If you lose 12 times, will you just give up? Dale Carnegie, a pioneer in public speaking and self-development, kept t   {#blank#}1{#/blank#} . And he became famous by showing people how to be successful.

Carnegie was born in 1888 in a poor farming family in the central United States. The boy didn't see a train u {#blank#}2{#/blank#}  he was 12 years old. In his teens, he had to get up at 4 am. every day to milk the cows in his family.

 When Carnegie first entered college, he felt hopeless because of his clothes and ordinary looks. His mother e {#blank#}3{#/blank#} him: “Why not try to be better in other things i{#blank#}4{#/blank#}  of just dress and good looks?”

 Carnegie tried to be more a   {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  in college. He joined the debate(辩论) team. But one after another, he lost 12 times. The young man was d {#blank#}6{#/blank#} in himself. He said later that he thought of killing himself after so many failures(失败).

 But soon Carnegie was seen practicing public speaking on the riverside. His hard work brought good results at last. In 1906, Carnegie won a famous speech c  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  and became widely known.

 The young man made his own words come true: “B {#blank#}8{#/blank#}  that you will succeed, and you will.” In order to s {#blank#}9{#/blank#}  his success, Carnegie opened schools and wrote books. His best-sellers(畅销书) i   {#blank#}10{#/blank#} How to Win Friends and Influence People and How to Stop Worrying and Start Living. More than 50 million copies of his books have been printed in 38 l{#blank#}11{#/blank#} (83). They are still helping people on the road to success.

Tang Ling often smoked cigarettes(香烟) in his school's washing room. He {#blank#}1{#/blank#} smoking at the age of 14. One day he learnt that the NBA star Yao Ming, an ambassador(大使) to the Chinese Association on Tobacco Control (中国控烟协会), asked people not to smoke. Yao Ming was Tang's favorite star, and his words meant a lot to him. He decided to give up {#blank#}2{#/blank#} .
According to the Chinese Association on Tobacco Control, about 350 million Chinese smoke. Among them, 50 million are teenagers. Sun Jiangping of Beijing University said, “ Teenagers can get cigarettes {#blank#}3{#/blank#} , especially when their parents smoke or shops sell cigarettes to them. It's very important for parents to help their children {#blank#}4{#/blank#} smoking.”
A 15-year-old boy {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Li Kun from Beijing said his parents didn't smoke. Because they {#blank#}6{#/blank#} smoking could make people feel {#blank#}7{#/blank#} ill, they only {#blank#}8{#/blank#} him to play with friends without smoking. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} in such a good family helped Li say no to cigarettes. Some of his smoking classmates once told Li that smoking made boys look cool, but Li disagreed. He said, “Smoking is {#blank#}10{#/blank#} and it's not cool at all. Please stop smoking now!”

Subject: The Riding for the Disabled Association
Hi Christine,
Sorry I haven't emailed lately —I've been very busy since becoming a volunteer for the Riding for the Disabled Association.
Every Saturday, I help to get the horses {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  for the disabled(残疾) riders. Many more disabled people want to ride {#blank#}2{#/blank#} than you'd imagine. It's a disadvantage that I don't know how to ride —I'd love to got on long rides with the riders— but I'll learn soon {#blank#}3{#/blank#} . Right now, I'm just happy to be able to lead the horses around for the disabled riders.
    I'm{#blank#}4{#/blank#}  helping to organize a sale, which will be {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  next month. It's a lot more work than helping the disabled. I need to collect second-hand things to sell at the sale. There are {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  things available(获得的) than I thought, but I'm sure we'll have enough{#blank#}7{#/blank#}  next month.
     I hope the sale raises more money than last month's walk. It was rainy, so too few people took part in the event. Last week, we held an auction(拍卖). The auction took much less {#blank#}8{#/blank#} to organize than the walk. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} , for some reason, people offered too little money for the things, so we didn't raise enough money.

    Only Mother Love is true love. It gives everybody everything all h{#blank#}1{#/blank#} life. When you are still a baby, mother takes good care of you as p{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. In your w{#blank#}3{#/blank#} hours she always holds you in her arms. When you are ill, she stops her work right now to look after you day and night a{#blank#}4{#/blank#} forgets about herself. When you are growing up day b{#blank#}5{#/blank#} day, she feels very happy. When you are old enough to go to school, mother still looks after you all the time.     The Big Merino is in city of Goulburn. Merinos are a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} of sheep. They can live in dry {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Some places in Australia are very{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, so these sheep sre very important {#blank#}4{#/blank#}the farmers there, {#blank#}5{#/blank#}the big Merino, there is a small {#blank#}6{#/blank#} about the{#blank#}7{#/blank#} of wool in Australia. Visitors can also{#blank#}8{#/blank#} up to the Big Merino's{#blank#}9{#/blank#} and look at the{#blank#}10{#/blank#} through its eyes.
