One day Mr. Smith put a monkey in a room. He also put some small boxes in it. In one of the boxes there was some food. "How long will it take the monkey to find the food?" Mr. Smith said to himself. "Let me wait and see." He left the room and waited outside. Three minutes later, he put his eye to the keyhole. What did he see? He saw the eye of the monkey.    The students were having their chemistry class. Miss Li was telling the children what water was like. After that, she asked her students, “What's water?” No one spoke for a few minutes. Miss Li asked again, “Why don't you answer my question? Didn't I tell you what water is like?”
   Just then a boy put up his hand and said, “Miss Li, you told us that water has no color and no smell. But where can we find such kind of water？The water in the river behind my house is always black and it has a bad smell.” Most of the children agreed with him.
   “I'm sorry, children,” said the teacher. “Our water is getting dirtier and dirtier. That's a problem.”

    I was walking around in a store. I saw an assistant pass this little boy his money back, saying, “I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.” I walked toward him and asked him who he wished to give this doll to.
“It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas. She was so sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.” he said.
    I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus will bring it to her, and he shouldn't worry. But he replied to me sadly, “No, Santa Claus can't bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.” His eyes were so sad while saying this. “My sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.” My heart nearly stopped. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy, “What if we checked again, just in case (万一)you do have enough money?”
   “Ok,” he said. “I hope that I have enough.” I added some of my money to his without letting him see and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money left . The little boy said, “Thank you God for giving me enough money!”
    I left the store, feeling as if my life had been changed forever.

    Mr Black was walking in the forest（森林） He was scared when he heard a terrible noise. But he could not get out of the forest. His friends were waiting for him in a village outside the forest. They would give him a lot of money if he took a tiger to them, or they were going to laugh at him.
    Mr Black liked hunting(打猎). He usually killed some birds and animals. But a week ago, after he drank too much, he called himself a brave hunter. So his friends bet(打赌) him twenty thousand dollars if he could kill a tiger.
    Suddenly, he heard a little noise. He ran to a big tree,and climbed up it quickly.He didn't come down until he saw it was a farmer. He went close to him and asked, “Excuse me, sir.Are there any tigers in the forest?”
    “Yes,” said the farmer. “I saw a lot of tigers' tracks（足迹）about a kilometer north near here.”
“Good!”Mr Black said in a hurry. “Which way is to the south,then?”

    On the first day of school our teacher introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.
    I turned around to find a little old lady with a warm smile. She said, “Hi, handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old.”
“Why are you in university at such a young age?”I asked. She replied, “I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of kids, and then retire and travel.”
    I knew she was joking. I was curious(好奇) what might have encouraged her to be taking on this challenge at her age.
“I always dreamed of having a university education and now I'm getting one!” she told me. We became friends. Every day we would talk nonstop after class. I always enjoyed listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom(智慧) and experience with me. And Rose easily made friends wherever she went.
    At the end of the term we invited Rose to make a little speech. She cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. I've learned a few secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.”
   “There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change……”

This man's work had been the lonely but joyful task of raising his family．This man was my father．I was the 1 6-year-old，the oldest of seven．
