Edinburgh, the capital city of Scotland, is famous for its festivals. There are twelve festivals around the year. Half of them are celebrated during the months of July and August.Thousands of people visit it. Here are some of the events（公开活动）you can enjoy in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh International Festival

The first Edinburgh International Festival was planned during World War II for artists to find hope and communicate with each other. Later, actors, musicians, dancers and singers from all over world came over to give performances.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe

This is one of the largest art festival in the world. There are thousands of shows across the city. It was first held as a supplement（补充）to the Edinburgh International Festival. Then it developed very well. Anyone can perform in the festival and many artists take part in it. During the festival, you can go to the Royal Mile to watch performances for free.

Edinburgh International Book Festival

It began in 1983. It is the largest book festival in the world. It is held every year in Charlotte Square Gardens in the center of Edinburgh. There are over 700 event for kids and adults who love books. You can meet many writers, talk to them or ask them to sign a book. Kids also like it because they can listen to stories and watch artists draw pictures of the stories.

    Waste can be seen everywhere in the school. Some students ask for more food than they can eat and others often forget to turn off the lights when they leave the classroom. They say they can afford these things. But I don't agree with them.

    Waste can bring a lot of problems. Although China is rich in some resources, we are short of others, for example, fresh water. It is reported that we will have no coal or oil to use in 100 years. So if we go on wasting our resources, what can we use in the future and where can we move? Think about it. I think we should say no to the students who waste things every day. Everybody should stop wasting as soon as possible.

    In our everyday life, we can do many things to prevent waste from happening, for example, turn off the water taps when we finish washing, turn off the lights when we leave the classroom, try not to order more food than we need, and so on. Little by little, everything will be changed. Waste can be stopped one day, if we do our best.

    Have you ever heard the saying "There is no place like home!" This is just another way of saying that home is a very special place. Our bedroom, our family, our pets, and all of the things we love are at home.

    Is home a place where you can relax and have fun? Is home a place where you get all of your best thinking done? Being at home means different things to different people. As people grow older, home usually represents more responsibility (责任) because it needs care inside and out. Who takes care of all of these things in your home? How do you help out?

    There are many different kinds of homes. Some people live in apartments, condos, or single﹣family homes. Homes have different rooms that are used for different purpose. The kitchen, the bedrooms, the living room and the bathroom each have their own use. Suppose your house does not have a roof and you are a bird flying over it, what does your house look like? Think about it.

    Some people might say that family and food are two of the best parts of being home. At home, you can tell your parents about your day, play with your pets, and grab a snack from the cupboard of fridge. You can relax in your room and read a book or play a game. You can ask friends over to play. Home is a place to take care of and be grateful for. Even though you are young, you can help to make a nice place to be. After all, home is where the heart is!

    Han Hong is a singing star. She is famous all over China. She is a little bit short and she is a little bit heavy, and she has short curly hair.

    Liu Xiang is a great Chinese runner. He is tall. He has short black hair. In 2004 Olympic Games, he made history. He is called fly man.

    Luo Jing is tall and thin. He is of medium build. His hair is short and black. He has big eyes. He is a host of CCTV News. He works very hard. But he died on 5th June, 2009 in Beijing.

    Lu Xun is a well-known writer. He has black straight hair and he has black beard. He was born(出生)in Zhejiang in 1881. He died in Shanghai on October 19th, 1936.

    Michael Jackson is a famous singer in the USA. He is of medium build. His hair is curly. He is of medium height. He is famous for his dance. It looks like walking in the space(太空).

    Today is Wednesday. Shirley is busy today.

    Shirley is a middle school teacher. She teaches P.E. in school. Shirley has four lessons on Wednesday，two in the morning and two in the afternoon. She needs to teach the students to play volleyball this week. That is her favorite sport. Tina is one of her students. She is really good at sports and she wants to be a volleyball player. School finishes at four in the afternoon. After school shirly doesn't go home. She stays in the school with students in school volleyball team. They will have a volleyball game with number 2 middle school next Friday. Every one wants to win the game so they practice hard. Shirley gets home at 7:00 pm. It's late but she is happy because she likes being a teacher and she is glad to help her students.
