Last summer I went to Qingdao. Qingdao is in the east of China. I went there with my mother and my grandma. The weather there was very hot. I swam in the sea every day. We ate lots of fish. We had a lovely time there.

  This is my best friend. He is a boy. He is from the UK. He has no hair. He can speak English well and he can speak a little Chinese. He has no glasses. He is short. He looks very funny.

    Mary is a little girl. She is only four. She is not at school. She can't read or write. But her sister Joan is a schoolgirl. She is ten years old. She can read and write.

    One day, Joan sees her little sister in the room. She is at the table. There is a pencil on her hand. She is writing.

    "What are you writing, Mary?" she asks.

    "I'm writing a letter to my friend Rose."

    "Buy how can you? You can't write," says her sister.

    "Well," says Mary, "it doesn't matter. Rose can't read"

    Two hundred years ago, there were no telephones or mobile phones in China. People wrote letters to get in touch with their friends or relatives.

    Once there was an old woman, she lived alone in a village. Her son was working in the city. One night she missed her son. She could not get sleep. She wanted to write a letter to him. But she could not read or write. After some time she got up and knocked on her neighbour's door.

    “Mr. Lee, could you please write a letter to my son for me?" she asked. It was the middle of the night and Mr. Lee wanted to sleep. He didn't get up or open the door. He said loudly to the woman, I wish I could help you but I have a problem. My handwriting is very bad at night. Only I can read it. If I write the letter now, I'll have to visit your son and read the letter to him. Maybe you should come back tomorrow.”

    Aunt Judy's birthday is coming. She will be 38 years old. Dad and Mum are going to take me to her house. She lives in Guangzhou. We are going to go there by train. Her birthday party will be on Saturday. We are leaving on Friday afternoon. And we are coming back on Sunday evening. I am going to give my dear Aunt Judy a picture. I am drawing it now. I am drawing some beautiful flowers. I am drawing a small dog, too. That's because she likes dogs. The picture will be very nice.
