Millions of people have seen Disney films and TV programmes. They have made friends with all the Disney heroes: Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Snow White, and Peter Pan. Millions more have visited Disney Parks. Probably no other company has pleased so many children. It is not surprising that it has been called a dream factory.

    Walt Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois. Then his family moved to Missouri. He grew up on a farm there. At the age of 16, Disney began to study art in Chicago. Four years later, he joined the Kansas City Film Ad Company. He helped make cartoon advertisements to be shown in cinemas.

    In 1923, Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to join his brother Roy.  He wanted to be a film producer or director. But he failed to find a job. So he decided to make animated films. In these films, drawings are made to move in a lifelike way. We call them cartoons. Disney wanted to bring his pictures to life.

    Disney opened his first company in the back of an office. For the first, several years, he had to work hard for a living, but he believed that cartoon films could be popular.

    Mickey Mouse was drawn with a group of circles. The public first saw Mickey Mouse in a film called Steamboat Willie. Walt Disney himself provided the voice for Mickey Mouse. The film was produced in 1928. It was a huge success. Mickey Mouse appeared in hundreds of cartoons during the years that followed. He became known all over the world.

     People often said Thomas Edison was the greatest genius(天才) of his age. There are only a few men in all of history, who have changed the lives of other men as much as the inventor of the first useful electric light. But Edison could never be pleased only because someone said he was a genius. “There is no such a thing as genius,” Edison said. He thought what people called genius was mostly hard work.

     But Edison was a thinker as well as a worker. From his earliest days as a child he wondered about the secrets of nature. He tried to understand them, and then he tried to learn what he could usefully do with them.

     Edison enjoyed thinking. He knew that most people would do almost anything instead of the difficult work of thinking, especially if they do not think very often. But he knew, too, that thinking could give men enjoyment and pleasure.

     Edison could not understand why anyone could not be interested in life. As he loved to think, he also loved to work. On the day he became 75 years old, someone asked him what idea he had about life. “Work,” he answered, “Discovering the secrets of nature and using them to make men happier.” He said he had enough inventions in his mind to give him another 100 years of work.

     Dick lived in England. One day in January he said to his wife， “ I'm going to fly to New York next week because I've got some work there.” “Where are you going to stay there?” his wife asked. “I don't know yet.”Dick answered.“Please send me your address from there in a telegram (电报).”His wife said. “All right，”Dick answered.

     He flew to New York on January 31^st and found a nice hotel in the center of the city. He put his things in his room and then he sent his wife a telegram. He put the address of his hotel in it.

     In the evening he didn't have any work， so he went to a cinema. He came out at nine o'clock and said，“Now I'm going back to my hotel and have a nice dinner.”

     He found a taxi and the driver said，“Where do you want to go?”But Dick didn't remember the name and address of his hotel.

     “Which hotel are my things in?” he said，“And what am I going to do tonight?” But the driver of the taxi did not know. So Dick got out and went into a post office. There he sent his wife another telegram，and in it he wrote，“Please send me my address to this post office.

    This story happened four years ago. Tom was seven years old then. He was a good boy. He was one of the best pupils in his class. But he could not get up early. He often slept until nine or ten o'clock in the morning. So he was often late for school.

    Tom's mother didn't want him to be late for school. So she bought him a clock. She said to Tom, “You must get up when you hear the clock ring.”

Although half a century has passed, Shao Guohua never forgot the film ticket his teacher gave him that warmed his heart when he was a boy. Shao entered a primary school in Zigong, SichuanProvince, in 1960. Back then, sports and watching movies were the students' favorite times.

Once, the school organized a trip to the movies for the students, and many of Shao's classmates signed up（报名）for it. But the boy had no money to buy 0. 05-yuan ticket. When his classmates lined up to enter the movie theater, the boy stood alone outside. Then Shao's Chinese teacher Mo Xunru saw him and bought a ticket for him.He can't remember what movie it was, but Shao never stopped being thankful to his teacher.

"Ms. Mo made twenty or thirty yuan a month back then, so a 0.05-yuan ticket may not be a big deal for her. But for me, it moved me deeply," said 63-year-old Shao.

After graduating( 毕 业 ) from primary school, Shao moved to another city along with his parents. In the following years, he tried to find his former（以前的）teachers and classmates, but failed. It wasn't until this year that Shao Guohua visited his teacher, Mo Xunru after 50 years." The reunion ( 重 聚 ) was emotional, " said Shao, who is over sixty himself now. " The 89-year-old Mo did not hear well anymore and seemed to not know me at first sight, but she was still as kind as she used to be." Shao left 1, 000 yuan to his teacher as well as a letter which reads:

"Dear Ms. Mo, wish you good health. Your student: Shao Guohua."
