Ian Kierman was born in Sydney, Australia, and 1 near the sea. For more than 40 years, he raced in international sailing competitions.

    In 1987, Kierman was competing in an around­the­world race when he began to 2 the huge amount of rubbish in the world's oceans. 3 he returned to Australia, he decided to do something about it.

    He organized a community company called "Clean Up Sydney Harbour". On Sunday, January 8, 1989, more than 40, 000 volunteers came out to 4 away rubbish. The next year, Kierman made the clean­up a national event. It was a huge 5.Across Australia, about  300，000 people spent the day improving their local 6.

    Since then, "Clean Up Australia" has got 7 every year. In 2002, for example, 800, 000 people cleaned up almost 15, 000 tons of rubbish from Australia's beaches, parks and streets.

    Kierman was 8 with the success of his project. In 2003, he started an even bigger program. With the help of the United Nations Environment Program, he introduced "Clean Up the World"， an international program that supports communities around the world in 9 and protecting the environment. "Clean Up the World" has grown 10 and his wonderful idea has now spread from one city to the whole world.

Usually I wouldn't cross the park at this time of night. But walking around the park would take more time, and it was raining so hard that I couldn't even see clearly what was right before me. So I entered the park. And that was the first stupid thing I did tonight. 

Soon after I walked into the park, I saw a man under a tree up ahead. My heart fell. The stories I'd heard about the park were all coming into my head at this moment. Anyone with a clear mind would just turn back. But me? No. I did another stupid thing: I decided to hurry past him. 

Just when I was passing the man, he raised his head and gave me the strangest smile ever. I got scared and started running. "Hey!"the man shouted from behind. "Wait! "He was running after me! 

I ran like crazy. I had hoped the trees would keep some rain off. And they did. But they also madethe park look even darker. I couldn't see what was ahead of me. Then, I ran into something. It was the man! 

"Don't kill me!"I cried. 

"What? I was trying to give back your bag! You dropped it."The man gave me my bag. 

Now, I felt saying that to the man was the stupidest thing I did tonight. 

I'm Timo Halla. I1 with my parents in Helsinki， Finland. I'm happy every day. Now, it's December. Every Tuesday, I usually get up at 7:40. 1 often listen to the news2 music. My mum always cooks for me. After 3 , I walk to school. And it only takes me 10 4 .

My school begins at 9:00.There are 18 5 in my class. Each lesson is 45 minutes. Between lessons we have a 6 , and we can do other things with our friends. We have three7 in the morning-one Finnish lesson and two home economics lessons. The afternoon lessons begin at 12:30 and8 at2:15. Then I go to my ice hockey club.

I usually get home around 4:00. It is already9 outside. All the lights are on. I often have dinner at6: 00. Then, I read with my parents for an hour. After that, I 10 my school things for the next day. At 9:30, it's time for me to go to bed.

A good king needs honest ministers (大臣) to help him manage the country. However, one king believed that his most important minister was a bit too honest!

The Valuer's job was to say what the price of everything in the country should be. He did his best to set fair prices, so that buyers and sellers would be happy. 

This did not please the king! "A good Valuer should set the prices that I want-then I can buy things cheaply and sell them expensively. " he said. "What's the point of having a Valuer if he doesn't set the prices I want?"

Soon, the king invited a foolish man to be the Valuer and fired (解雇) the honest Valuer. People brought all kinds of goods-rocks and fruit, fans and potatoes, fish and elephants. The foolish man had no idea how much anything was worth, so he just said whatever price came into his head. People were angry about many of the prices he set, but what could they do? He was the king's Valuer, after all!

One day, a horse trader came, leading five hundred fine horses. He bowed to the king and the Valuer, and said, "How much are my horses worth?" The king wanted the horses, so he told the Valuer to set a very low price. The Valuer thought for a moment and said, "Your horses are worth. . . a cup of rice!" The horse trader was speechless! But he had no choice but to accept the Valuer's price. 

However, the next day, the horse trader went back, carrying the cup of rice he had been given. "Yesterday, you said that my five hundred horses were worth a cup of rice, " the horse trader said to the Valuer. "____"

The foolish Valuer was surprised by this question. He said, "Your cup of rice is worth, er. . . this big city, and everything in it!" There was silence. . and then everybody started shouting at once. 

"That is silly!" shouted the king. "This city is worth far more than a cup of rice!"
