People use money {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  food, books, bicycles and hundreds of other things they {#blank#}2{#/blank#} .When they {#blank#}3{#/blank#} ,they usually get paid in money.
    Most of the money used today{#blank#}4{#/blank#}  metal or paper. But in ancient times people often used all kinds of things as money. One of the first kinds of money was shells（贝壳）.
    In ancient China, cloth and knives {#blank#}5{#/blank#}  money. Elephant tusks（象牙）,monkey tails（尾巴）and salt were used in some parts of Africa. Rice was also a kind of money used by the ancient people on some islands. Cows and other animals were used as money. too.
The first copper（铜）coins {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  China. They were round and had a square（正方的）hole in the center. Different countries have used different metals for their money. Later some countries {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  to make coins of gold and silver（银）.But gold, silver and copper were heavy {#blank#}8{#/blank#}  when people needed a lot of coins to buy something expensive. The Chinese were the first {#blank#}9{#/blank#}  paper money. The first paper money didn't {#blank#}10{#/blank#}  like the paper money we use today.

Lunch Made of Love
In those poor times, many of my classmates couldn't bring a nice meal to school for lunch. My deskmate's meal was always cabbages, while{#blank#}1{#/blank#} （我的）was ham and fried eggs. Sometimes, my deskmate would first pick the hair out of his lunch and then eat it as if {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（没事）had happened. This continued for a long time.
"His mother is so lousy（邋遢的）that her hair drops in the meal, "my classmates said. I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} （想）it was really dirty, but I couldn't show that because I didn't want to hurt（伤害）his feelings. Still, I started to think that he was {#blank#}4{#/blank#} （肮脏）, too.
One day after school, he called me and said, "Would you like to come to my house if you are {#blank#}5{#/blank#}
Though I didn't want to go, I knew it would be impolite to refuse because this was his first invitation. Following my friend, we {#blank#}6{#/blank#} （到达）at a poor village.
"Mom, I brought my friend home. "
His old mother opened the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （门）, "My son's friend is here. Let me have a look. "But to my {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （惊讶）, his mother was blind. She couldn't see anything.
I felt sad. Now I understood why my deskmate's lunch had hair in it. His mother got ready for it {#blank#}9{#/blank#}（仔细）for him every day, even though she was blind. It was not only a lunch, but also a {#blank#}10{#/blank#} （母亲）love.

    Yesterday I heard from a friend. In his letter, he said,“I'm planning a housewarming party and I've already started making {#blank#}1{#/blank#} for it. It will start at 2 pm next Tuesday and last(持续) {#blank#}2{#/blank#} 9 pm. I hope you can come if possible.I am {#blank#}3{#/blank#} your coming.” But I am busy preparing for an important meeting these days. I have to turn it down. So I {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in writing to the invitation like this, “I'm glad that you invited me. It's such a big event that I don't want to miss(错过) it. But I really have an important meeting that day, so I won't be {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. I'm very sorry. I'll visit you another time.”
