江苏省东台市八校2016届九年级下学期英语期中测试

阅读下列短文,从每题的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

In order to know a foreign language thoroughly, four things are necessary. Firstly, we must be able to understand the language when we hear it spoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it ourselves, correctly, with confidence and without hesitation. Thirdly, we must be able to read the language and fourthly, we must be able to write it. We must be able to compose(组成)sentences that are grammatically correct. We must know how to arrange sentences in paragraphs, so as to write a good letter or composition.

There is no easy way to succeed in language learning. A good memory is of great help, but it is not enough simply to memorize rules from a grammar book. It is not much use learning by heart long lists of words and their meaning. We learn words not by ourselves, but in sentences. We must learn by using the language. “Learn through use” is a good piece of advice for those who are studying a new language. Practice is very important. We must practice speaking and writing the language whenever we can.

(1)、The most important things to learn a foreign language are_______.

A、understanding and speaking            B、memorizing and listening C、writing and understanding                 D、hearing, speaking, reading and writing

A、he doesn't have a good memory B、he often hesitates to practice speaking it C、he always remember lists of words and their meanings D、he doesn't understand the language when he hears it spoken
(3)、One can never learn a foreign language well only by_______.

A、doing more exercises B、studying the dictionary   C、learning through use                 D、using the language

①A tree has roots(根). People have roots too. If you get to the root of a problem, you will solve it. It's the same thing with words.

②As readers, especially those reading in a second language, we need to deal with the text as if we were detectives(侦探)looking for information to discover the unknown. Like any good detective arriving on the crime scene, the first thing to do when meeting a new and difficult word is to look at everything that is known and see if it helps us to

understand what it means.

③As you know, prefixes (前 缀) and suffixes(后缀) can be added to the beginning or end of words to change the meaning. Know them, and you will be able to build the word. But root words are the key. Take time to learn a few of these and remember them, and you will become good at guessing the meaning of words.

④Let's look at one common root word used in English. "Alter"from the Latin word means "other". When you meet this root word, you know that the bigger word has something to do with "other". Examine the word "alternate".Can you find the Latin root in it?

●If you and your friend like to eat out, first you pay and the other pays the next time. You are alternating paying.

●If you go to the movies on alternate Saturdays, you go on one Saturday, but not the other Saturday.

●If you have no alternative, you have no other choice.

⑤Learn as many root words as possible in the language you are studying. Then use your "rooting for words"skills, Like any new skill, practice and hard work are always paid back.

 阅读下面短文,然后根据括号内所给汉语意思写出单词的正确形式。每空限填一词。

If you want to be successful in life, it's a good idea to start when you are {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (年轻). Follow these steps, and success will come your way.

Work hard at school. A good {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (教育) will help you succeed in later life. Do the best you possibly can: listen to your teachers, study hard and read a lot, including {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (报纸) and magazines.

Think about what kind of job you want to end up in. The sooner you have an idea about what your goals are, the sooner you can make the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (决定) that will help you achieve them.

Behave yourself! This isn't the easiest time to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (避免) dangerous and unhealthy activities, because you have so much energy. But don't {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (担心) —it gets easier as you get older!

Be nice and {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (诚实) to your parents and teachers. They're there to help you. They are worth your respect.

Value your friendship. Friends are {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (必要) in your life. So choose them well! Stay close to the people who make you laugh {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (大声) and make you feel loved, and be there for them when they need you.

Keep moving! Whether you join a sports team, take up cycling, go {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (游泳), or just walk—make sure you exercise.

 根据短文内容完成表格,每空限填一词。

Perhaps you are looking for an after school hobby, or something to do on the weekends. Gardening with children can be a great way.

Most children love to get dirty. Gardening is a good reason to let them touch the soft earth and enjoy sunshine outside. It can make them stronger.

Gardening can make children learn about their favorite plants at an early age. It helps them know where their food comes from. Children can also understand why it's important not to waste food.

Don't mind if it takes your children some time to take care of the plants. Be sure to encourage them to keep watering and feeding their plants as needed until the end of the growing season. Gardening is a great way to teach your children about responsibility.

Children always have questions. Gardening can help them develop their curiosity (好奇心). A few minutes in a garden, kids will start asking questions. Feel free to let them guide the conversation. Make sure to take the chance to learn together about anything you can't answer.

Start with small projects that children can follow and enjoy, and get them to choose what they want to plant.

 阅读下面短文, 在空白处填入一个适当的词, 或填入括号中所给单词的正确形式。

We know really well about ourselves.

If you {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(ask) to describe yourself to someone else, what will you say? It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} knowing who you are can help you understand feelings better.

The ability to have a good understanding of our own character is called self-awareness. If you' re self-aware, you are able to see yourself {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (clear). You may also know that you love playing {#blank#}4{#/blank#} instrument because you do well in it and music makes you happy, or that you like watching TV on your own because it helps you relax.

Knowing what you like and dislike, what you are good at and what you find difficult allows you {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(make) better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and so on. You learn to trust {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(you) own feelings more and that can build up confidence. The World Health Organization {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(say) self-awareness is one of ten important life {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(skill) that can help young people live happier, healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn't mean only thinking of yourself. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} understanding your own feelings, you will better understand other people, too.

How do you learn to be self-aware? It's a good way to ask questions. But ask yourself questions that start with"{#blank#}10{#/blank#}" instead of"why". For example, if you don't understand why you keep arguing witha friend, ask yourself what you disagree on instead of why you' re arguing. Learning to be more self-aware is a skill and you learn it as you grow. So be brave and try out new things!
