Do you like sports? How about joining the soccer or track (田径) team? Last year, our school soccer team won the county championship (冠军), but many of our best players have moved up to high school. So now the team needs new players. For more information, communicate with our sports advisors, Ms. Matte or Mr. Stergis.

This year, your classmates in the school art club plan to paint a mural (壁画) on the wall by the office. So they need new members to help create it! Are you interested in drawing, painting, or taking pictures? {#blank#}4{#/blank#} The first meeting of the school year is next Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in room 221. Please see Ms. Greenway for more information.

There are some new activities you can try. Try the new after-school science club! It has plans to enter the National Junior Robotics Competition this year. So if you want to try building a robot, this club is for you. See Mr. Larson in room 105 for more details. The club meets every Thursday.

Booking a museum ticket this past summer was not easy. Visitors often found that tickets for the following week had been fully booked. 

     ★    To many museum staff, such crowds had not been seen before. So, what was behind this "museum craze"? 

Part of the reason is a growing interest in traditional Chinese culture, according to Guo Sike. He is in charge of the Confucius (孔子) Museum in Shandong province. 

"Nowadays, young Chinese love traditional Chinese culture," said Guo. He added that modern technologies have also played a role. They allow people to experience and appreciate traditional culture in more ways. 

The Shanxi History Museum in the city of Xi'an also saw an increase in visitors. The museum can only allow 12, 000 people to visit each day. Its ticket booking platform, however, received more than 600, 000 clicks a day. To solve the problem, the museum called off its Monday closures (闭馆). It was also open for more hours on Sundays. 

Popular study tours (游学) also helped bring more people to museums. The Confucius Museum saw many of these tours. In order to meet their needs, it organized several different activities. For example, there were exhibitions to show people the Kong family's customs. 

In Xi'an, the Qinqiang Opera was a popular subject of study tours. Local museums offered chances to learn the culture. For example, visitors could wear the performer's costumes and learn to sing the opera. 

"People love the more hands-on travel experiences," said Yang Rong from the Shanxi Tourism Association. 

"Museums are bridges. They connect the past, present and future," said Yang Chaoming a professor at Shandong University. "More and more people wish to. better learn about traditional Chinese culture through museum visits."

 Last month, Shenzhen launched its first smart cat adoption(领养) center in Bao' an District in July. The center is a 6- square- meter room with a glass door. It makes it easier for people to adopt street cats. Through this center, two cats have already found new homes.

 People who rescue street cats can apply to bring them to the center. If the staff think the cats are suitable to stay, there's a daily fee of 20 yu an to take care of the cats' health 24 hours a day. The fee can be paid by the rescuer or raised by the public.

 People who might want to adopt a cat can enter the center by scanning(扫描)a QR code and paying 10 yuan. Visitors also need to put on shoe covers before going in. Inside, visitors can find basic information about the cats and how to adopt the cats. There's also a smart feeding machine where visitors can buy food for the cats. And it doesn't cost anything to adopt a cat.

 Many people like the center for protecting street cats, especially in winter. However, some citizens worry that the cats might be harmed by cat haters. The staff explained that they will monitor the center all the time, and they can lock the doors through remote control if needed. Serious problems will be reported to the police at once. The center allows up to three visitors at a time, and children must be with a parent.

 More smart cat adoption centers are planned for Nanshan and Bao' an districts. With the adoption centers, over 10 pet- themed parks, and 50 pet- friendly malls, Shenzhen is on its way to becoming a" pet- friendly city".

Have you ever heard about "E-sticks"? People{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (很少) connect sticks with GPS. Wang Zikuan, a teenager from Shenzhen, made a big difference by inventing the walking sticks for old people. Zikuan found that old people in{#blank#}2{#/blank#} ( 日 常 的 ) lives always got hurt badly when they hit against things. But not everyone{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (知道) how to help them. Inspired by car alarm system, he built a sensor (感应器) into his walking sticks. If the stick comes within 25 cm of a wall or other things, it will sound an alarm to {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (警告) the user. The stick's GPS system also allows users to be found if they get lost. 

His teacher Mr. Zhang noticed his talent and that he should take part in a{#blank#}5{#/blank#} ( 当 地 的 ) inventing competition. After trying for many times, he made it. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} ( 没 有 ) doubt, he won the first place. Now the walking sticks are{#blank#}7{#/blank#} ( 广 泛 地 ) used by the old and the disabled. Many accidents are{#blank#}8{#/blank#} ( 避 免 ) with the help of the walking sticks. 

Zikuan's parents took{#blank#}9{#/blank#} ( 自 豪 ) in what he had done. In order to inspire Zikuan's creativity, his parents always encourage him to think of more{#blank#}10{#/blank#} ( 想 法 ) that are well worth considering and take him to different invention fairs.
