In many European countries it is normal to have a long break in the middle of the day when all members of the family return to their houses to eat together. This is not very {#blank#}1{#/blank#} in Britain because normally it is a long way from the place of work or school to the home. The {#blank#}2{#/blank#} people often have a big breakfast before they go to work and the meal at midday is not{#blank#}3{#/blank#} _with the members of the family but with workmates or schoolmates. Lunch is normally{#blank#}4{#/blank#} between 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm. Most people finish work at five thirty. It often take at _{#blank#}5{#/blank#} an hour to get home from the school or workplace so people eat their meal {#blank#}6{#/blank#} "dinner" between 6:30 pm and 9 pm.
On Sundays people don't have to work so they take the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to eat together with their family. Sunday lunch is {#blank#}8{#/blank#} the best meal of the week and many of the meals which are considered real British food are eaten for Sunday lunch, such as roast beef and pudding.
{#blank#}9{#/blank#} everyone in Britain understands that "breakfast" is the first meal of the day, there is a lot of confusion(混乱) about the words for other meals such as "dinner, lunch, tea, high tea, elevenses, brunch, supper". And if you ask a British person what these words {#blank#}10{#/blank#} , most of them will give you a different answer according to what part of the country they are from.

Lucy wanted{#blank#}1{#/blank#} a present for her mother on Mother's Day. But she didn't have{#blank#}2{#/blank#} money. She was very{#blank#}3{#/blank#} . She thought and thought. She had an idea.       “Sorry” is a word that people in Britain often say in their daily life.

      One day while I was {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(walk) on the street, a young man ran by hurriedly, brushing（轻擦）against my handbag. He continued his way, but turned  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} /bæk / and said “sorry” to me. Even in a rush, he didn't {#blank#}3{#/blank#} /fə'get / to say “sorry”. One day, after I bought some bananas, the shopkeeper was passing me the change, but I wasn't ready for it and a coin dropped onto the ground. “Sorry, Madam,” he said while bending to pick it up.        Slowly, I got to know that when something unpleasant happens in daily life, the British don't care much {#blank#}6{#/blank#} who is wrong. If someone is in trouble, a “sorry” is always {#blank#}7{#/blank#} / 'nesəsəri /. Perhaps that is {#blank#}8{#/blank#} /waɪ/ I seldom see people quarrel on the buses or streets in Britain.

    What is the spirit of Christmas? If you don't know, maybe the story in A Christmas Carol will tell you this. The story is about an old man {#blank#}1{#/blank#} Scrooge who is very mean and doesn't {#blank#}2{#/blank#}others nicely. However, one Christmas Eve, the ghost of his dead partner, who was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} because he {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to be just like Scoorge, come to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} him to change his ways if he doesn't want to end {#blank#}6{#/blank#} like him. He also tells him to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} three ghosts to visit him. That night, the three ghosts take him to the past, {#blank#}8{#/blank#} and the future. All the things that happened make Scrooge so scared. He decides to change his life and does a lot of things to be a better person. He spreads love and joy {#blank#}9{#/blank#} he goes, which actually {#blank#}10{#/blank#}the true meaning of Christmas: the importance of sharing and giving love and joy to people around us.

    One day, a lobster(龙虾) met a hermit crab(寄居蟹)in the deep sea. They stopped {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (swim) and began to have a talk with each other.

    The lobster {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (take) off his hard shell and showed his lovely and soft body. When the hermit crab saw the lobster take off the shell, {#blank#}3{#/blank#}felt surprised. He shouted at the lobster and wanted to stop the lobster.

    "Hey!" said the crab. “{#blank#}4{#/blank#} are you talking off your shell? The shell is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (use) and it can protect you. Now you take off your shell. Big fish may eat you. You may also knock against a rock. Don't be silly. Please put {#blank#}6{#/blank#} your shell again. Or you will have to {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (payment) a heavy price for what you did."

    “{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (thank) for your reminding, hermit crab! But we take off our shells in order {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (grow) better. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}we are afraid to take off our shells, then we can't move forward in life," answered the lobster.

    The hermit crab thought it over and understood what the lobster said.

    Steve Jobs was born on 24th February 1955 in San Francisco, California. As a child, he often worked with his father or electronics.

    In high school, he met Bill Fernandez and Steve Wozniak(or “Woz”). Woz and Bill showed Jobs a computer board that they were building at the time. Jobs was very interested in it.

    After high school, Jobs went to one of the best colleges in Oregon. However, he dropped out only after a few months. In the meantime, Woz worked for Hewlett-Packard, but found time to build his own computer. When Jobs saw what Woz had done, he could imagine that people would need it very much.

    Together, they set up a company called Apple. Apple Computer became a big success, and this made Jobs a rich man. Unfortunately, Jobs's personality(性格) made him very difficult to work with. He left Apple to set up another company. Soon, Apple started to do badly. Jobs returned to Apple and helped make the company successful again.

    Back at Apple, Jobs was responsible (负责) for the development of the iMac, iTunes, iPod, iPhone and iPad.

    In 2003, Jobs got very ill and died on 5th October 2011.
