牛津深圳版九年级下册Module2 Environmental problems Unit 3 The environment同步练习

根据短文理解,完成下列各题。

Gasoline (汽油) prices are getting higher and higher. The prices make it hard for drivers to afford the fuel. One group held a special event to display(展示)new kinds of cars .The new cars are different and they can run on many different kinds of fuels.

Some of these cars are called hybrids(混合动力). They can run on different kinds of fuels. One kind of them runs on a special fuel cell which is filled with a gas called hydrogen.

The fuel cell cars are also better in another way. They give off no emissions(排放物). They are very clean, and don't give off bad fumes when they are running.

One man who makes fuel cell cars is excited about the hydrogen fuel cell technology. He says we will never run out of the sources of the fuel, but we may run out of the oil. Once we use oil up, it will take millions of years for more oil to form. Since gasoline is made from oil, that could be a problem for companies that make traditional cars, and for drives. However, it won't be a problem for cars that run on fuel cells.

Buses that run on hydrogen fuel cell power are being tested on the road. They could become a common form of transportation in the near future

Recent research from the Pew Internet Project suggests that 90% of Americans aged from 12 to 17 use the Internet, and 51% of those teens use social networks. However, there are many possible problems with social networking sites and the teenagers who use them.
Apart from the social advantages, social networking sites can be used to record school research, develop artistic talents and experiment with other forms of subject creation. They provide a way to communicate with others who share the same interests and to get helpful advice on ongoing projects.
Along with these advantages come some dangers. For example, most social networking sites are open to all, especially MySpace, which is the most popular social network among teens in America. It means that they could be put in unpleasant and frightening situations.
A greater danger is that teens may become objects of the people with secret purposes. The secrecy of some social networking sites makes it easy for dangerous people to find young teens and invite them into dangerous conversations. It's easy for them to pretend as teens and draw children into dangerous real-world communication as well. Then further hurt might be on its way.
Another danger is identity stealing, which can happen when teens share too much information about their names, dates of birth and locations.
Therefore, it's very important to make sure teens are safe when they use social networks.
Many of the same rules that work for online chat work for these sites:
※ Don't use your real name.
※ Don't give out personal information to people you don't know. A last name and a town are enough for a bad guy to find where you are.
※ Don't believe that people are who they say to be.
※ Immediately end any communication that makes you uncomfortable and report it to a parent.
Only if you are sure of your safety, can you enjoy the fun brought by social networking. Besides, trying to deal with all problems on your own can lead to terrible results. Remember, asking your parents or school officials for help doesn't mean you are unable to do anything but wiser than many others.

The Internet is becoming important in our life. How much do you know about it?

What is the Internet?

The Internet is a large, world-wide collection (聚集) of computer networks( 网络). A network is a small group of computers put together. The Internet is many different kinds of networks from all over the world. These networks are called the Internet. If you have learned to use the Internet, you can have a lot of interest on the World Wide Web(网)

What is the World Wide Web?

The World Wide Web has been the most popular development of the Internet. The Web is like a big electronic (电子) book with millions of pages. These pages are called homepages. You can find information about almost anything in the world on these pages. For example, you can use the Internet instead of a library to find information for your homework. You can also find information about your favourite sport or film star, talk to your friends or even do some shopping on the pages. Most pages have words, pictures and even sound or music.

What is e-mail?

Electronic mail (e-mail) is a way of sending messages to other people. It' s much quicker and cheaper than sending a letter. If you want to use e-mail, you must have an e-mail address. This address must have letters and dots (点) and an" @ " (means "at"). For example: Lily @ Yahoo, com. Write a message, type a person's e-mail address, then send the message across the Internet. People don't need to use stamps, envelopes  or go to the post office since the invention of the Internet . Quick, easy and interesting — that' s the Internet .

In many high schools, there are strict rules about using mobile phones. If your phone rings in class, for example, the teacher will be very angry.

Every mobile phone has a ringtone (铃声). It tells you that someone is calling you. Now, there is a ringtone called "mosquitotone (蚊子铃声)". Using it, students can receive calls and text messages (短信) in class but the teacher will not realize what is happening. How?

Mosquitotone has a special sound. Only children and teenagers can hear it. As we get older, we are unable to hear some sounds with high frequencies (频率). As a result, a child or teenager can hear the mosquitotone ringtone, but someone of 20 or older can't.

But sometimes, people over 20 can hear the ringtone. One British student's phone uses mosquitotone. In class, the student's phone rang. The 22-year-old teacher looked at the student and became unhappy. "I heard that. You know the rule: no mobile phone in class."

Not all the students are interested in mosquitotone. Jerry Jones, a high school student of 17, says, "Using mosquitotone too often is bad for our hearing. I may use it for pleasure, but not in class. It's unfair(不公平的) to the teachers!"

What do parents think of mosquitotone? "I think it is perfect for places like movie theaters," says Connie Neeson, 44. "Think about it. You're watching a film and someone's mobile phone rings. Mosquitotone is good because many people don't hear it. However, it also has a bad influence(影响) on their study if students use it in class."
