School volunteers don't get paid, but sometimes we get special gifts.

One morning, I was selling tickets to our school's evening performance. “I think it's 1that I have to pay to see my own child perform,” a parent said unhappily.

    “The school needs a voluntary donation (捐赠) to help 2 the scenery and costumes (服装),” I explained. "But 3 has to pay for the tickets. Of course you can have them for free."

    "Oh, I 4 pay," she grumbled (嘟囔), "Two adults and a child." She handed me a ten-dollar bill, and then I gave her the change and her tickets. That's the boy waiting behind 5emptied a pocketful of coins onto the table. "6?" I asked.

    "I don't need tickets," the boy said. "I've 7 seen the show. I arrived late last night and couldn't find anyone to buy tickets from, 8 I just walked in. I'm paying now, for last night."

    I pushed the coins back and said, "If the ticket table was 9, you didn't need to pay. Nobody knows the difference." However, the boy 10 to take back the coins. "I know the 11," he said before leaving.

    "Excuse me…" I looked up, 12to see the woman who had bought her tickets moments earlier. She was still there, with change and tickets in hand. "Why don't you 13 the change?" she said. "The scenery must be beautiful, and those costumes couldn't have been 14." She handed me a few dollars and left.

    Little did the boy know that he had given us both a special 15 that has more meaning than money.

    It's 12 o'clock. Mr Bakery goes into a restaurant for a quick 1. "Hi! Can I help you?" a waiter says. "I'd like some French fries, a hamburger and a medium Coke," says the man. "2 else?" asks the waiter. "No," the man answers. "That's all." "For here or to 3?" asks the waiter. "I'll take it away," says the man. The waiter puts the food into a bag. Then the man goes away4 the bag. "Have a nice day," the waiter says.

    The man goes back to his office. He sits down and opens the bag. There is a hamburger, some French fries and a Coke. But there is also some 5in it. "That's the money for my lunch," says the man. He wants to go back to the restaurant 6he doesn't want to get his lunch for free. He is always such a nice man.

    When he gets back to the restaurant, he finds it's7. So he has to wait for half an hour there. When it is his turn, he tells the waiter everything. After hearing the man's 8, the waiter smiles at the man and asks him to wait a minute. Then the waiter 9 the manager (经理) what has happened. The manager thinks the man is 10, so he says to the man, "Sorry. We made a mistake (错误). You are so nice that we decide(决定) to give the food to you as a  reward (作为回报)."

A young whale(鲸鱼) got stuck near the beach today. The whale was small and had been born {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(recent). Some people saw the whale {#blank#}2{#/blank#} trouble. They called the police.

Soon help was on the way. Jenny Smith {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(arrive) first. She is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} scientist who examines whales. Jenny usually looks at every part of an animal {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(see) if it is healthy. A whale is a mammal(哺乳动物). Mammals are warm-blooded animals that have hair and drink {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(they) mother's milk. Jenny checked the whale's heartbeat and breathing. She said the whale seemed normal. There were no {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(sign) of illness.

Next, Jenny checked to see {#blank#}8{#/blank#} hunger was a problem or not. Going a long time without food can be dangerous for a whale. But this whale seemed healthy and full.

The helpers acted fast. They kept the whale wet. The tide slowly came in. The water got{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (deep) than before. Soon the whale could swim again. At last, the whale was rescued! Its life {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(save) by Jenny and the other helpers. If they didn't get the whale back in the water soon, it will die and they couldn't let that happen.

Two brothers planned a two- day trip in a forest and soon they were lost. They were far from home. But they knew how to camp. The older brother went to look for firewood (木柴). The younger brother went to look for food and water, but he could not find anything. He was very tired, so he sat down to have a rest. 

He noticed a bird in the tree next to him. Then he heard a voice, "I know where your parents are! I know where your parents are!"

Wondering who was talking, the boy looked around. He got so confused (迷惑的) when he saw nobody. Then he heard the words again. Suddenly, he came to know that the bird was talking to him!

The young boy looked at the bird. He said, "Can you really help us get home?"

She said, "Yes, I can. I know the village you live in. I can take you back there. I only ask for three insects (昆虫) to eat. That will give me the strength (力气) to guide you home."

The young boy quickly agreed to feed the bird and ran back to his camp as fast as he could to tell his older brother about it. His older brother did not believe him at first. Slowly he agreed to go with him and met the talking bird. 

They found three insects for the bird. The bird swallowed (吞下) them quickly. "We will leave in the morning," she said. 

The next morning, the boys followed the bird home. It took them many days. When the boys got home, they and their parents were very happy to see each other again. The parents had been sad since the boys left. The family decided that they would always feed hungry birds. 

 The girl Miumiu is from Nanjing, China. She is 11 years old. She is good at playing different1 like the piano. She is a good singer, too! Her sweet songs make many people 2 her. On 14th May,2023, she3 a TV programme(节目) and sang A Quiet Night by Li Bai.

 Zhou Zhaoyan is Miumiu's real name. She had much interest in music at 3. Then her father taught her to 4 the piano. She spent(花费)2 or 3 hours on the5 every day. Sometimes, her father took her to play outside. She was a little6 at first, but day by day, she became more and more relaxed. Her parents made some videos(视频) for her. And they7 share her videos online. Many people like the videos very much.

 This girl— Miumiu, is very nice and 8 . "Thank you for your love. I will do better. See you next time." She says every time for the9 of her videos. She also wants to10 a music club and help other children to play music.
