A new report shows what life might be like in 100 years from now. Experts on space and architecture(建筑), and city planners gave their ideas on life in 2116.     As more information comes out about 10-year-old Cindy Smith's death(死亡), worries about amusement park safety(游乐场安全性) grow.

Cindy is not the first child who died on an amusement park ride. 25 years ago, the mother of a 14-year-old girl waited to pick up her daughter outside Worlds of Fun. Laura Barry never saw her daughter Rosie alive again.

"My heart goes out to the Smith family more than they can ever possibly know," said Barry. She is one of the few people who truly know the hurt that family is feeling.

In 1995, Rosie's mom said that something went wrong on the Timber Wolf the night Rosie died. Police found no evidence(证据). Two men told the police that they saw Rosie standing before she fell out of the car.

"I couldn't believe that such a thing could happen still and again," said Barry. She believes Rosie's death should have been a wakeup call for amusement park safety.

She finds that not much has changed in the past years. Amusement parks race to build bigger, taller, faster rides. In her opinion, amusement parks just try to bring in visitors and give them the idea that riding is good, safe and fun. She believes that parks should have put safety first.

There is no exact number of amusement park deaths each year. It is quite low according to some websites. But Barry doesn't accept that. "My daughter was the only person that had ever been killed at Worlds of Fun in all of the years, among all of the thousands and thousands of people that went there. The number doesn't mean anything, you know, because when your child is the one, that's one too many," she said.

Recently, a short video showing a member of the cleaning staff at the Summer Palace in Beijing explaining Buddhist tourist sites(佛教景点) drew wide attention online.

In the video, Zhang Xu explains the tourist sites to several visitors who are doing research. What makes it special is that he expertly names a list of hard-to-pronounce Buddhist sites. He speaks so easily and confidently that it seems he is doing a tongue twister(绕口令). {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  But he is wearing the uniform worn by the cleaning staff and holding a broom(扫帚). After the explanation, Zhang smiles and returns to his work as though nothing has happened.

Zhang became a member of the cleaning staff at the palace in late 2021. He is required to walk about 40,000 steps inside the palace every day. So he knows a lot about it. "The traditional architecture of the palace is not just a number of bricks(砖块). {#blank#}4{#/blank#} They know how to speak to people who understand them," Zhang said. "They show the beauty of traditional Chinese architecture."

A. The video was shared online by the tourists.

B. I often read books about it in my spare time.

C. These buildings are "friends" that have a long history.

D. The visitors think Zhang must be a tour guide or an expert.

For two centuries, the famous University of Cambridge debating society has hosted many prominent figures from world leaders to scientists to comedians.

On Nov 21, the Cambridge Union hosted another extraordinary guest—a non-human debater called Project Debater. Designed by IBM, Project Debater is a machine that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to form a spoken argument. It can even listen and answer to opposite statements, much like a real person.

In the Cambridge test debate, it argued the topic: AI will ultimately(最终)do more harm than good. Before the debate, more than 1,100 arguments for the positives and negatives of AI were submitted(递交)to the IBM website. The machine then analyzed these sources and formed the basis of its arguments in minutes. Project Debater then showed off its AI by arguing for both sides of the debate.

Over a four-minute speech, it argued first that, "AI can only make decisions that it has been programmed to solve while humans can be programmed for all situations."

In support of AI, it then argued that AI would create new jobs and "bring a lot more efficiency" to the workplace.

This isn't the first test for Project Debater. In June 2018, the machine went back-and-forth for 20 minutes against champion debater Harish Natarajan.

According to New Scientist, on both occasions, Project Debater repeated points and didn't always sufficiently support them.

Speaking to Cambridge Independent, Noam Slonim, the project's lead engineer, said, "The AI is not perfect, but it's going in the right direction." The team hopes to improve the AI by researching why humans find certain arguments more persuasive than others. They also hope the test might provide well-informed viewpoints for society, governments and private companies.
