When you are about to do something brave, a cheerful wish of "Good luck!" from a friend can be helpful. But if you think you need lots of luck, what else might you do?

In the UK and US there are some strange traditions for bringing yourself a little more good luck. Some are hundreds of years old and some are much newer.

Have you heard the saying "When you wish upon a star"? If you are looking up at the sky on a clear night and you see a sudden flash of light, it is probably a shooting star! Seeing one doesn't happen very often. The saying goes that you have been very lucky if you see one, and so if you make a wish, it will come true.

Maybe you have heard of the lucky  rabbit's foot. Some people believe that rabbits are lucky animals, so they carry a part of the rabbit, its foot, for good luck. There are all kinds of strange, unclear rules about which of the rabbit's feet is the luckiest. It is said that this good luck tradition is the oldest one of all. However, as the funny saying goes, "Depend on the rabbit's foot if you will, but remember it didn't work for the rabbit!"

People in Britain love trees. If it is autumn and leaves are falling from the trees, some people try to catch the leaves as they fall because they think each leaf they catch will bring them a lucky month in the following year—they will need to catch 12 falling leaves to have a whole of good luck!

World War II lasted from 1939 to 1945. Life changed for everybody, including women and children because of the war. Millions of people lost their lives during the war. The Diary of a Young Girl was a record of that time. The book was written by a girl named Anne Frank.
Anne Frank was born in Germany in June 1929. Because the German Nazi(纳粹分子) hated the Jews(犹太人) and warned to kill them, her family had to move to another country. In July 1942, they went into hiding in a secret place in her father's office. During that difficult time, Anne kept writing diaries until she and her family were discovered by the Nazis in August 1944. They were caught and sent to a Nazi camp. The next year, her mother died. In the same year, she and her elder sister died of illness, before the war ended.
After the war, her father collected her diaries and the book The Diary of a Young Girl came out in 1947. It has been put into over 30 languages since then. The book has been read by people all over the world. In her diary, Anne wrote down her thoughts, her feelings, her hopes and her dreams for the future, "I want the diary to be my friend, and I'm going to call this friend Kitty." "I can't spend all day complaining because it's impossible to have any fun! ... Every day, I feel the beauty of nature and the goodness of the people around me. With all that, why should 1 be sad?"
The Diary of a Young Girl has also become a symbol of the greatness of the human spirit. It is called one of the wisest and most moving records on war.

Daniel Olin was 11 years old when his parents moved to Canada. He liked his new school and made friends there,but then things at home started to change. His mum and dad began to argue and the arguments got worse and worse until one day,Daniel's mum left. With his father working long hours,to run away. And that's what he did.

Very early one terribly cold morning when the snow was deep on the ground,he packed a bag with some clothes,some chocolate and a map of Canada and set off to a forest. He ran and ran until he could hardly breathe. His feet were heavy with the snow but he still walked on through deep snow, not even watching where he was going.

Then,disaster struck. A rock hidden by the deep snow caught his feet and Daniel fell to the ground. He had broken the bone. He was very cold and was starting to feel tired,but he knew that if he fell asleep in the snow, he would certainly die from the cold.

A tree shook ahead. From within the branches(树枝),a pair of yellow eyes watched Daniel. The puma had been following him. A puma is a large wild cat with claws that could tear(撕开) Daniel into pieces. But instead of moving in for the kill,arms and legs. Daniel was too frightened to move,but soon the warmth of the animal reached Daniel and he began to feel better. From time to time(口鼻) against Daniel and rocked his head gently. Clearly,the puma knew that Daniel must not fall asleep. This animal should have been a real danger to Daniel and yet the boy began to feel safe.

They remained like that for several hours until Daniel and the puma heard voices. The rescue (援救) team had found them.

Nowadays, more and more people begin to look for fun online. Watching livestreaming (直播的) shows has become part of their lives. At the same time, traditional culture has found a bigger stage online. Many traditional artists are starting to livestream on Douyin and Bilibili. Some of them sing Peking Opera, some show their folk handcrafts (手工艺), while others perform Chinese classical music. A growing number of people are becoming interested in traditional culture because of livestreaming.

Li Jun is a Peking Opera performer with the Shanghai Jingju Theater Company. After the outbreak(退休), the 59-year-old man took up his smartphone and started livestreaming. Unlike performing on a formal stage, Li uses ordinary places as his stage, including his backyard and study room. Apart from singing, Li also teaches audience about Peking Opera. People can ask him questions and get answers directly.

"Livestreaming has brought this elegant (高雅的) art down to earth. " one viewer said. "It gives young people an easier access to this traditional art and learn more about it. " Li has more than 6, 000 fans on Douyin, while one of his videos got 42, 000 views on Bilibili

On March 26th, 2020, Bilibili livestreamed a Huafu show on the third China Huafu Day (中国华服日). Performers presented clothes in traditional Chinese styles, including those from Wei, Tang and Ming dynasties. During the show, viewers not only enjoyed looking at the clothes, but also watched how performers used ancient styles of make-up.

As Guangming Daily noted, livestreaming has come to a new stage through which traditional culture can be kept alive.
