Running a few kilometers each day is good for our health. However, new research says running too much could be bad for us. Running long distances {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(regular) for many years could make our life{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(short), not longer. The study is from the Minneapolis Heart Institute. A researcher said too much running can created plague(斑) inside your heart,{#blank#}3{#/blank#}can lead to heart disease. He wrote that running too much for many years takes away the good things from exercise. He{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(add) that the risk of heart disease could be{#blank#}5{#/blank#}same as someone who never exercised.

    Researchers looked{#blank#}6{#/blank#}the health and training of 3,300 runners over the age of 35. 70% of them ran over 30 kilometers a week. Men who ran marathons for 25 years had 62% more plaque in their heart than men who did little{#blank#}7{#/blank#}no exercise. Another doctor said he felt cheated. He started running marathons in 1967. He used{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(run) 60 kilometers every week. He said, “I thought I was out there exhausting{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(me), building an absolutely strong heart.” The doctor advised{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(exercise) frequently but not to overdo things.

    Drunk driving, a major concern currently, is not a funny thing, {#blank#}1{#/blank#}has killed many people and ruined the lives of many others. At present, traffic accidents become "the world's first harm".

    Two months ago, after {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(drink) a lot of alcohol, my friend's uncle drove his car home. He was{#blank#}3{#/blank#}(heavy) drunk, but he still drove home by {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. On the road near his home, an old lady was going across the road, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} his uncle didn't notice her and he was still moving on under the influence of alcohol. And the old lady didn't see his uncle, either. In the end, the lady died.

If the lady hadn't died, she {#blank#}7{#/blank#} live a happy life with her daughters and sons. And his uncle's home was also destroyed by his uncle. Therefore, two {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(family) were destroyed.

    I wish more people {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(can) realize the seriousness of drunk driving and obey the traffic regulations faithfully. Always remember: refuse {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(drink) and drive, and give a safe world to you and me!

    The ancient wisdom of Confucius is timeless. His thinking{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (lead) the Chinese for thousands of years. However, English teaching seems to be one place {#blank#}2{#/blank#} his wisdom is forgotten.

    I came to China 6 years ago, and quickly saw the plight (困境) of so many students {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (struggle) to learn English.     They use it primarily by speaking and listening,{#blank#}7{#/blank#} (eventual) supplemented (补充) by reading and writing. Every language is taught by gaining speaking competence long before grammar, reading and writing {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (introduce).

    Chinese students work so hard{#blank#}9{#/blank#} they learned English with correct spoken instructions and classroom practice, they would have the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (high) English scores in the world and they would conquer English.

    When I was six, Dad brought home a dog{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(call) "Brownie". Brownie got along well with every member in our family. She would go to {#blank#}2{#/blank#}was sick and just be with them. We always felt much {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(good) when she was around.

    One day, as I was getting her food, she{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(bite) a hole out of one of Dad's shoes. I scolded her,{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (tell) her what she did was wrong. She looked down at the ground and then went and hid. I saw tears in her eyes.

    Brownie went everywhere with us. People would stop and ask if they could pet her. Of course she'd let anyone pet her. She was just the most lovable dog. There were many times{#blank#}6{#/blank#}we'd be out walking and a small child would come over and pull on her hair. She never barked or tried to get away. The{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(fun) thing was that she would smile. This frightened people because{#blank#}8{#/blank#}thought she was showing her teeth. Far from the truth, she loved everyone.

    Now many years have passed since Brownie{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(die) of old age. I still miss the days when she was{#blank#}10{#/blank#}us.

    A father was worried about his son{#blank#}1{#/blank#}was sixteen years old but had no courage (勇气) at all. So the father decided to look for a Buddhist monk(僧侣){#blank#}2{#/blank#} (train) his boy.

    The Buddhist monk said to the boy's father, “I insist that your son should be left alone here. I'll make him into a real man within three {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (month). However, you can't come to see him during this period.”

    Three months later, the boy's father {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (return). The Buddhist monk organized a boxing match (拳击赛) between the boy and an {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (experience) boxer. Each time the fighter hit the boy, he fell down, {#blank#}6{#/blank#}at once the boy stood up; and each time a heavy blow knocked him down, the boy stood up again. Several times later, the Buddhist monk asked, “{#blank#}7{#/blank#} do you think of your child?”

    “What a shame!” the boy's father said, “I never thought he would be so {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (easy) knocked down. I needn't have him stay here any {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (long)!

    “I'm sorry that that's all you see. Don't you see that each time he falls down, he stands up again instead of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (cry)? That's the kind of courage you wanted him to have.
