What will the house of the future look like? Could it have gardens on its walls, or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects(建筑师) believe that they are all possible. The only thing for sure is that the houses will be as green as possible.

The tree house

Many architects in the world would like to build a “tree house”. Like a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The energy can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for the home. The “root” (根) of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the soil (土壤) to keep the home's temperature.

The Lizard house

Like a lizard (蜥蜴), changing color with the weather is the most important design of a lizard house. When it's in the bright sun, the cover of the house will turn dark to protect it from strong heat. During dark days, it turns white and takes in as much light and heat as possible to produce energy.

Meals at home

This design is perhaps as much about the future of food production as architecture (建筑风格). It has gardens on the outside wall of the house. People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea in them. So every day in the morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.

(1)、The “root” (根) of the house uses the soil (土壤) to _______.

A、keep the home's temperature B、produce electricity C、protect it from the cold wind D、keep it clean
(2)、We can heat water, produce electricity or create fresh air for the home _______.

A、with the root of a leaf B、with the energy from sunlight C、with the soil under the ground D、with gardens on its walls
(3)、What will happen to the cover of the lizard house when it's in the bright sun?

A、It will take in light. B、It will produce energy. C、It will turn dark. D、It will turn white.
(4)、The passage seems to tell us that meals at home in the future will _______.

A、be more delicious B、need more cooks C、cost as much as possible D、be greener
(5)、What is the best title (标题) of the passage?

A、Green houses of the future B、The greener, the better C、How to build green houses D、Changes of the houses

During the years of game making, there have been a number of games. Many old games have gone since modern games came out.

Teachers at a primary school asked their students to write articles about games they knew and were surprised by the results. Half of the 50 children in one of the classes wrote about online games. It is easy to see that traditional games like hide-and-seek and jump rope games are unfamiliar(不熟悉的) to many of today's schoolchildren. They like to play computer games, especially in the cities, with the rising popularity of TV, the Internet, video and online games.

An educationist said, "Traditional games used to be so popular, but over just a few years, kids have forgotten them. It's sad."

The games that many parents once played were generally outdoor activities which were enjoyed by students during breaks or after school. They usually needed several partners and just a little space.

Jump rope games, for example, have always been popular in many countries around the world. A kind of jump rope game, played with rubber bands(橡皮筋) which are connected together to make a long rope, is played in many countries.

Rubber band jumping was once very popular in primary schools. Girls loved playing this game. It can help kids practise their jumping skills and develop coordination(协调性), and also help them meet lots of friends.

It is common these days to see primary school students spending their breaks in the classroom. They are busy with their studies.

"When we were young, we played many different outdoor games, but today's children don't know what to play or how to play," a 40-year-old mother said. "They don't know what teamwork is."

Being worried by the situation, educational officers have tried to make some programmes to educate children on traditional games.

Once upon a time, there was a young man who liked puppets (木偶) so much that he became an apprentice(学徒) to a master puppet-maker. Sadly, the young man was not so clever, and his teacher and the other apprentices were always telling him he had no talent for making puppets, and that he would achieve nothing in making puppets.

Even so, he was fond of it so much that he worked day after day to improve himself. Though he made every effort, they would always find something wrong with his puppets, and the poor puppets ended up being thrown out of the workshop.

The young man wasn't going to give up, so he decided that from then on he would spend all his time making just one kind of puppet. Whenever he found a fault in his puppet he would throw it away and start again. Years passed, and with each new attempt his puppet became a little bit better. By that time, his puppet was much better than anything that the other apprentices could make, but he kept making improvements. Living like that, the man wasn't making any money, and many people laughed at how poor he was.

By the time he was an old man, his puppet was truly wonderful. Finally, after so many years of work, he finished work on his puppet, and said, "I can't find anything wrong with it. This time it is perfect." And for the first time in all those years, instead of throwing his puppet away, he put it up on the shelf, feeling truly satisfied and cheerful.

It is well-known that the perfect puppet, Pinocchio, came to life after that, had a thousand adventures, and gave that old man –whose name was Geppetto—more joy than any other famous puppet—maker had ever got from any of their creations.
