People can often see a talking parrot on a TV show, in a movie, or even in someone's home. The parrot has learned {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (copy) sounds that people make. Dolphins, bats, and some other animals also copy sounds. Now we can add elephants {#blank#}2{#/blank#}this list of copycats (盲目模仿者).

    Dr. Joyce Poole is an expert,{#blank#}3{#/blank#}studies the sounds of elephants. While she was in Kenya, she would hear strange noises {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (make) by Mlaika after sunset. Mlaika was{#blank#}5{#/blank#} 8-year-old African elephant and it lived near a highway.

    Dr. Poole says that she couldn't tell the {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (different) between Mlaika's call and the {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (distance) truck noise. Why did it copy the sounds of the trucks driving by? Animals that are able to copy sounds may enjoy {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(practice) new sounds. When they {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (keep) outside of their natural environment, they may copy unusual sounds. 

    So far Dr. Poole {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(spend) 18 years with two female Asian elephants. Asian elephants make sounds like birds to talk with one another.

    Parrots, dolphins, humans, and elephants show that being a copycat is one way that animals and people make new friends and keep old ones.

Nosey and the Porcupine（豪猪）

    Nosey knew that she was supposed to stay in the yard, but the gate was let open. She took a glance {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the woods up the street. For Nosey there was nothing as wonderful as {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(dash) among the trees and sniffing（嗅）the flowers. After all, she was called Nosey for a reason. Her name described her usual, day-to-day {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(behave).

    She quietly slipped out of the yard and headed towards the woods. Soon after Nosey arrived in the woods, a butterfly landed on her nose. She reached for it, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} it few away. Then Nosey {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(spot) it again on a berry bush. When she was within striking distance, she jumped. The butterfly fluttered out of Nosey's reach once more, but it was too late for Nosey {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(stop). She landed directly on top of the berry bush with a crash. At first, she was astonished by the sudden fall. Then she was shocked to find {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(she) face to face with a sleeping porcupine under the bush!

    The arrival of a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(noise) visitor caused the porcupine to wake up. Nosey had ever seen a porcupine before, so she gently sniffed at it with her nose, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} really annoyed the porcupine. He turned around and the quills（棘刺）on his tail were standing up. {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(sudden) Nosey found herself with a nose full of quills.

    Tea enjoys popularity around the world as a comforting treat. First, choose the type of tea you want to drink. There are various types of tea that offer different health {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (benefit) and flavors. Next, boil a pot of water and pour it over your tea. Allow your tea to soak thoroughly. Add milk and sugar to increase the flavor of bold teas or add honey {#blank#}2{#/blank#} lightly flavored teas if desired.

    Green tea is known for {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (it) high level of a cancer-fighting chemical. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, green tea is high in caffeine and can make you feel anxious and nervous if you drink too much. It is said that oolong tea may promote healthy skin and black tea can {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (great) reduce the risk of breast cancer in younger women. White tea is helpful in preventing cavities and building the{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (strong) of your teeth. There have been many claims about herbal teas which can do good to health, but there is limited research or {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (support) data on these claims.

    Most teas can {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (buy) and transported in tins of loose tea or in small packages of tea bags. Some people believe that loose leaf teas have a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (fresh) flavor than tea bags {#blank#}10{#/blank#} others prefer tea bags because they're much easier to use and carry around.

    The party began shortly after nine. Mr. Wood, who lived in the flat below, sighed to himself as he heard {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (excite) voices and the noisy music. Luckily, he had brought some work home from the office, with {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he kept himself busy for a couple of hours, thus managing to pay no attention {#blank#}3{#/blank#} the noise overhead. But by eleven o'clock he felt tired and was ready to go to bed though from his {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (early) experience he knew it was no use {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (try) to get to sleep. He undressed and {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (lie) for a while in bed, trying to read, but he found himself reading the same page over and over again. He then turned off {#blank#}7{#/blank#} light and buried his head in the pillow. But even so he could not shut off the noise. Finally, after {#blank#}8{#/blank#} seemed hours, his patience was gone.

    He jumped out of bed, put on some clothing, marched firmly up the stairs, and walked into his neighbor's apartment. The owner of the apartment came across the room and, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} Mr. Wood could say anything, cried, “My dear fellow, come and join us. I know our parties would trouble you. I meant to send you an invitation.” Mr. Wood's anger disappeared then and there. He said, “I'd better go and get changed.” Minutes later, he returned, {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (proper) dressed, only to find that the party was nearly over.
