Have you ever wanted to achieve something really amazing in life? Well, Greg Mortenson wanted to climb a mountain, but he ended up helping thousands of people to have a better life.

 Greg's story began with failure. In 1993, he set out to climb K2, the world's second highest mountain. But Greg never made it to the top.  After five days, he stumbled(踉跄）into the village of Korphe in northern Pakistan, injured(受伤）and hungry. The kind villagers there looked after him for several days.

 Greg saw that the villagers were very poor and hungry, and some of them were ill. Also, the village school didn't have a roof(屋顶）and the children wrote on the ground with sticks. Greg knew he wanted to do something to help. " I'll build you a school,”he told the villagers. “ I promise.”

 Greg went back home to the USA to raise money for the school. He even lived in the car to save money! Finally he went back to Korphe and built the school. But this was just the beginning of something bigger! Since then, Greg's organization has built around 80 schools and runs many others in Pakistan and other countries, too.

 Greg hasn't finished yet. He does many other things to help people in poor countries. He has got many prizes, but it's the smiles of the children he has helped that makes him happy!

 Greg has just written a best-selling book about his story called Three Cups of Tea. It's an interesting and exciting book which tells us what ordinary(普通的）people can do with courage and determination(决心）!

    One day, a mother crocodile (鳄鱼) and a baby crocodile swam slowly in a river. Suddenly, the mother crocodile saw a monkey, "Oh, a monkey! How nice if I have it for dinner!"

    "My son, can you go and get the monkey for me? I want to eat his heart (心脏)," the mother crocodile said.

    "All right," the baby crocodile answered.

    The baby crocodile swam near the river bank (岸). He shouted at the monkey, “Hey, monkey！Would you like some bananas? There are many banana trees on the other bank of the river"

    "I like them very much. But I can't swim. How can I get there?" the monkey asked.

    "Oh, I can take you there," the baby crocodile said.

    "Really? Thank you very much!" the monkey jumped onto the baby crocodile's back. In the middle of the river, the baby crocodile went into the water. When he came up again, the monkey was wet all over. "Don't do that again, or you'll kill (杀死) me!" the monkey shouted.

    "I know, but I must do that! My mother wants to eat your heart."

    "My heart? 你为什么不早点告诉我? I left it in a tree. We should go back for it!" So_ they went back.

    As soon as they got to the bank, the monkey picked up a big stone (石头) and climbed up onto the tree quickly. He shouted at the baby crocodile, "Don't you want my heart? Well, catch!" The monkey threw the big stone at the crocodile.

    Miss Grey lived in a small house. She was old and did not like noise at all, so she was very pleased when her noisy neighbor moved out. A young man moved in and Miss Grey thought the man seemed to be quiet.

    But at three o'clock the next morning, the noise of a dog woke her up. She thought she had never heard a dog there before. It must be the young man's dog. So she telephoned the young man, said something bad about the dog and then hung up the telephone before he could answer. Nothing more happened until three o'clock the next morning. Then Miss Grey's telephone rang, and when she answered, a voice said, "You telephoned me twenty-four hours ago, now I ring you up to say that I don't have a dog."

    Once upon a time, a young man wanted to go to a village on business. Halfway there was a mountain. Before he left home, his family warned him to stay calm and climb onto trees if he was in face of beasts(凶猛的野兽). In this way, the beasts couldn't do anything to him.

    The young man remembered these words and began his trip He walked for a long time carefully and found no beasts were out there. He thought his family's worries were unnecessary. And he became relaxed as he walked. Just at that moment, he saw a fierce(凶猛的) tiger running to him and he climbed onto a tree nearby at once.

    The tiger roared(咆哮) around the tree and even jumped to reach the man. The young man was too scared to hold the tree and fell right on the back of the tiger. Full of fear, he had to hold the tiger tightly. The tiger thought that must be a giant beast. So it was afraid and started running madly.

    People on the road didn't know what happened and said, "Look at the young man. He is riding a tiger." "Cool!" "Superman!"

    Hearing these words, the young man was very angry. "Why can't they see I'm suffering a lot? Don't they understand I am in fear and almost scared to death? He said to himself.

In February 2021, a young man in Italy posted a video on Tik Tok about his new neighbor—and their unbelievable piano talent! They 1 their friendship by two pianos separated by one wall.

One day in January, the young man 2an idea when he heard the music from his neighbor. He wrote a note to his neighbor and 3him to play a song together： the classic "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion.

The next day, hearing the music from the neighbor, the young man was both 4and moved. Their communication soon 5piano duets （二重奏）through the wall, where each of them would create great music together.

Later, the young man 6that his neighbor's name was Emil and he was 78 years old. His wife had passed away in December from COVIEM9. Emil felt so sad and the only 7 thing left to him was playing the piano. He played it for his wife at 2 pm every weekend.

8 , Emil passed away in his sleep a few weeks later. When the young man learned the news, he felt so sad. To express his feeling, the young man wrote a letter to Emil, "Dear Emil, I knew very little about you,9 you changed my life. You gave me back my passion （激情），and we shared that with the world. You'll be in my 10.keep playing, thinking of how powerful music can be. You said I was your light, but you've been mine, too. Bye, Emil. "
