Greg Woodburn, a university student, spends a lot of time cleaning sports shoes. Some of them once belonged to him; some belonged to his friends. But soon the shoes will have new owners, poor children in the USA and 20 other countries, thanks to Greg's Share Our Soles(鞋底) (S.O.S) charity.
Greg was a high school running star in a small town in California. He had to stop running for months because his knee was injured. "I started thinking about all the things I got from running, the health, the friendships and the confidence."he says. And I realized there are children who don't even have shoes.
Greg collected his own sports shoes and then called his friends and the town. His aim was to have 100 pairs by Christmas 2006. When the number climbed to more than 500 pairs. Greg know that he could collect sports shoes all year round.
Now he has set up collection boxes in his town. So far, S.O.S has collected and donated more than 3,000 pairs of shoes. And Greg has cleaned almost all of them. “People think of it as duty work,”he says, "but I like doing it, because I feel happy when I'm doing it. It's not work I want to pass on to someone else.”
In just three years, Greg has started three branches(分部) of S.O.S and there are more and more sports shoes.
For many poor children who have received the shoes mean opportunity. Two young boys in southern California used to go to school on alternate days(隔日) because they both shared a pair of shoes. They were too big for one boy and too small for the other. Thanks to S.O.S, each brother received his own pair of shoes. The boys now go to school every day. When they graduate, they say they will help others, just as Greg helped them.

"Just because you can't see something, that doesn't mean it's not there." This old saying is quite meaningful for British artist Willard Green. The items he creates are so tiny that most of them fit on the head of a pin (针). You can see them clearly through a microscope (显微镜).

At every one of his art shows, people always ask the same question, ""

The answer is "Very, very carefully." So carefully, in fact, that he actually slows his breath down and works in between breaths. Willard usually works patiently under a microscope using special tools that he creates. To paint his works, he uses the hair from a fly(苍蝇) as a paintbrush.

Creating these detailed works is a very long and difficult process, and it isn't always enjoyable. "It is a terrible dream when I start but a nice dream when I finish," he says. A single item can take at least several weeks to complete.

People have asked Willard why he chose to do something that needed effort and took time. When he was young, Willard was not a strong student. He had difficulty in reading and spelling words. Some kids used to call him a loser. This made him feel small, so working on little things helped him to feel big. The smaller his work got, the bigger he felt. A newspaper reporter said, "Though his works of art are small, Willard is a great artist!"

Today, I felt bad after dinner. So I went out and took a walk in the street at 7:00 pm. While I was walking, I saw an old man selling vegetables. He looked very tired and nobody was buying his vegetables. I wanted to give him something but I brought nothing with me.

Then, a little girl went to him and said,"Excuse me, may I polish(擦亮) your shoes? I need money to buy a new school uniform (校服)."The old man answered,"Oh! Come with me and I will buy you a school uniform." Then they walked to a shop and he bought her a school uniform. The girl thanked him and left happily, leaving the old man smiling.

The old man walked away from the shop, but then I stopped him. I said, "You make the best day of my life. Thank you for your kindness!"As I walked away, I looked back and I could see him still smiling. I felt better and walked home.
