I'm very happy in my new school. I hope you're enjoying it. The teachers and students here are friendly to me.
We go to school five days a week. I get to school at seven thirty, and{#blank#}1{#/blank#}do you get to school?     Bill Adams retired (退休). His daughter, a nurse, asked if he wanted to volunteer at her hospital. Bill didn't think he wanted to be aroufid 1 people, but his daughter said. "Just try it for a week and see how you feel."

    Thirteen years later, Bill is 2 volunteering at the hospital two days a week. He says, "Volunteering is a good thing to do, and helping others makes me 3. "Over the years, Bill has worked in many departments (科). Now he 4 in the waiting area outside the X-ray room.

    There was once a young man in a town. He liked puppets (木偶) so much that he became an apprentice (学徒) to a great puppet-maker. Sadly, the young man was not so clever, and people around him always said he had no 1 for making puppets.

However, he enjoyed it so much that he worked day after day to 2his skills. Though he was hard-working, they would always find something wrong with his puppets. The young man was 3 but he wasn't going to give up. After thinking for a few days, he 4 to spend all his time making just one kind of puppet. As long as he found a fault (缺陷) in his puppet, he would throw it away and start again. Years passed, he was much 5 at making puppets than any other apprentice, but he kept making improvements. Living 6 that, the man wasn't making any money. Many people laughed at how poor he was.

    By the time he was an old man, his puppet was 7 wonderful. Finally, after so many years of work, he finished his puppet, and said, "8 wrong with it this time. It's perfect (完美的)". And for the first time in all those years, he didn't throw his puppet and felt so happy.

    The man's name was Geppetto. 9 he made the perfect puppet, he got more happiness than any other famous puppet-maker. His 10 tells us how important it is to keep on something.

    So never give up the things you really enjoy.

    No one is born a winner. People make themselves into winners by their own 1.

    I learned this lesson from an experience many years ago. I took the head 2 job at a school in Baxley, Georgia. It was a small school with a weak football program.

    It was a tradition for the school's old team to play against the 3 team at the end of the spring practice. The old team had no coach, and they didn't even practice to 4 the game. Being the coach of the new team, I was excited because I knew we were going to win.5 to my disappointment, we were beaten. I couldn't believe I had got into such a situation. Thinking hard about it, I came to know that my team 6 not be the number one team in Georgia, but they were depending on me. I knew I had to change my 7 about the ability and potential(潜力).

    I started doing anything I could to help them build a little pride. Most important, I began to treat them as winners. Instead of feeling discouraged, the members were in high spirits. That summer, when the other teams enjoyed their 8, we met every day and practiced passing and kicking the football on the school football field.

    Six months 9 suffering our defeat on the spring practice field, we won our first game and our second, and continued to improve. Finally, we faced the number 10 team in the state. I felt that it would be a victory for us 11 we lost the game. But that wasn't what happened. My boys 12 the best team in Georgia, giving me one of the most exciting events of my life. All of us jumped up and down with excitement, most of them even cried.

    From the experience I learn a lot about 13 the attitude of the leader can affect the members of a team. Instead of seeing my boys as losers, I pushed and encouraged them. I helped them to see themselves 14, and they built themselves into winners.

    Winners are made, not 15.

    People in a town once went hungry. A rich man who made bread and cakes invited twenty of the 1 children, and told them to take a loaf (条) of bread from a 2 every day till the hard days passed.

    The hungry children came together 3, and argued for the bread, because each wished to have the largest one. Finally, they went away without even thanking the good gentleman.

    But Gretchen, a poorly-dressed little girl, did not argue or 4 with the rest, but remained standing quietly far away from them. 5 the bad-mannered children left, she took the smallest bread, which was alone left in the basket, kissed the gentleman's hand, and went home.

    The next day the children were as bad-mannered as before, and poor shy Gretchen 6 a loaf hardly the size of the one she got the first day. When she came home, her mother cut the loaf open. Many new shining pieces of 7 fell out of it.

    Her mother was very surprised and worried, and said, "Take the money back to the good gentleman at once, for it must have got into the dough (生面团） 8 mistake. Be quick, Gretchen! Be quick!"

    But when the little girl gave the rich man her mother's 9, he said, "No, no, my child, it was no mistake. I had the silver pieces put into the smallest loaf to give you. Always be as satisfied. quiet, and 10 as you now are. Go home now, and tell your mother that the money is your own."
