When I was a little boy, I used to be very quiet and didn't have any friend. At that time my parents were very1with their work. I lived with my grandparents in another city. I always thought that2cared about me. Everything changed when I was thirteen years old. A boy gave me a special3a smile.

    It was my4year in the middle school. Everything there was new to me. No one knew who I was. I didn't know them, either. I was too shy to5anyone. Of course I was very lonely. Every time I heard the other students talking and laughing, I felt hurt. I had no friend to talk about my problems. I didn't want my parents to6me.

    Then one day, my classmates were talking7with their friends, and I sat at my desk lonely and unhappy as usual. At that moment, a boy entered the classroom. I didn't know8name. He passed me and,9a word, gave me a friendly smile. I said "Hello" to him. It was the first time that I greeted my10.

    This smile brought me to another world, a warm, bright and friendly world. That smile11my life. I started to talk with the other students and made friends with them. Day by day I became12to everyone in my class. The boy with the most wonderful smile became my best friend.

One day I asked him why he smiled, but he didn't remember that. It didn't matter13all the dark days had gone. I made14progress in my study. I felt my parents' love and began to talk with them. You can imagine how happy they were. Now I believe that the world is what you think it is.15you think you are lonely, you might always be alone. Therefore, smile at the world and it will smile back.

    Tommy was a poor man, so he tried to grow as many 1 as he could in his own garden, 2 he would not have to buy so many in the market.

    One evening he heard a noise in his garden and 3 the window. A white ox had got into the garden and 4 his vegetables. Tommy at once took his stick, 5 and chased the ox, but he was too old to catch it. When he got back to his garden, he found that the ox had ruined(毁坏）most of his precious vegetables.

    "You keep out this!" Tommy shouted back, "This is a matter 14 me and one of these two oxen. He knows very well 15 I am beating him!"

    My brother Jerry is a clerk at a clothes store. He works very 1 hours every day. He usually 2 at six in the morning. After he brushes his 3, he starts to 4 for thirty minutes. He thinks running is 5 for his health. Then he has breakfast. After breakfast, he 6 a bus to work. He is very busy. He has no time 7 home for lunch, so he eats 8 at the store. In the 9, he works for four hours. He has dinner at home. On weekends, he is not busy. He usually goes to the movies 10 me.

 The 16- year- old girl Xu Zhuoyuan from Changsha, Hunan Province, reached the top of Mount Qomolangma on May 15th, 2023. She became the youngest Chinese woman climber to do so.

 The girl's interest in climbing is influenced by her father Xu Jianglei. He was the first man from Hunan Province to reach the top of Mount Qomolangma.

 As a first- year high school student, Xu Zhuoyuan has already had a lot of experience in climbing. She has climbed five mountains, all above 5,000 meters, across China at a young age. She started her dream of reaching the top of Mount Qomolangma at the age of 12 and finally succeeded after years of hard work. To realize her dream, she had continuous training. Last year, she successfully reached the top of Muztagata, a 7,546- meter peak in Xinjiang.

 Being a high school student, she tries her best to do well in both study and mountain climbing. Usually she climbs during her summer and winter vacation. She hopes to continue climbing after she finishes her university studies. She wants to climb to the highest peak in each of the seven continents(大陆). She also wants to be able to reach the North Pole and South Pole one day.

I'm living in a small village in the countryside. My wife and I run(经营) a cake shop. We live a very peaceful life. Someone might say our simple life is boring. But we love it. We know all the people in the village. I have much time for my hobbies-- gardening, fishing and walking in the countryside. I love the outdoor activities.

 Three years ago, in 2020, I had a really terrible job in a company. I used to work very late in the office from Monday to Thursday. Usually I went home the latest on Thursdays. Luckily I could go home early on Fridays, but I had to bring work home on weekends. Because of the job, I used to smoke and drink too much.

 One day, my wife, a P. E. teacher, decided to leave me. She complained(抱怨) that she seldom saw me. She also said that I had become not humorous but serious since having the job. This made me realize what was really important to me. We talked and decided to start a new and happy life together. Last year,I gave up the job. Of course, I also gave up smoking and drinking and took up new hobbies.
