Do you know the Monkey Buffet(猴子自助餐) Festival? It is on the last Sunday of November. It is a great day for monkeys in Thailand. The festival is 35 years old. To thank monkeys, people have this special festival.

 On that day every year, people put lots of fruit, vegetables, cakes and even drinks on the tables outside. They are all for monkeys. Many people come to see the monkeys on that day.

During the festival, there are a lot of interesting activities about monkeys. Young people always dress(穿着) like monkeys and they play some music on the street.

 Monkeys eat fruit, vegetables and eggs. Monkeys are clever(聪明的). Do you think so?

You might often use emojis(表情符号) when you talk to your friends online. But did you know when emojis came into our lives?

Before emojis, emoticons(颜文字) first appeared. Scott Fahlman was a teacher at Carnegie Mellon University, US. On Sept 19, 1982, he made history by posting"： —)" online. Guinness(吉尼斯) World Records called it the" first digital (数字) emoticon".

Over the past 40 years, emoticons and later emoji s became central to our online chats(聊天). GIFs and memes(表情包) also appeared. Now there are 3,600 emoji s for us to show our feelings, according to CNN.

Emojis are like our body language online. When we can't find the right words, emoji s can help. They make our chats more understandable. According to a 2017 study, emojis help us get the same happiness from online talks that we get from talking in person. Our brain sees them as language.

Emoji s change, too! Unicode brings new emoji s every year. And it cares about race (种族), gender(性别) and other things. In 2015, for example, it brought out emoji s with different skin tones(肤色). In 2016, emoji s about different jobs came out, with women's versions(版本) of them.

Do you know which social app is popular with Chinese young people now? "Short videos" are certainly the most popular. A large number of young people use Tik Tok (抖音) and Kuaishou. They think it is fun to share their lives by short videos, while others have other purposes as well.

A t2-year-old user named Elsa has about 2. 7 million fans on Tik Tok. The girl has shared her dancing studies on Tik Tok since last July. One of the videos won her about one million tans. "I feel really glad to share happiness with people by short videos." said Elsa.

To some other young people, they use short videos to have a quick look at the hot programs. "Because I don't like to spend many hours watching a whole program, I hate waiting for a program to end, and I prefer to watch short videos of wonderful parts of hot programs," said Wang Zhihao.

However, some young people feel bored with short videos. "Killing time is the main reason for me to watch short videos, and many short videos are almost the same, so I think they are not so useful or interesting. What's more, I really don't like the videos about strange and dangerous things," said Wen Nan, another college student.

Recently, something else has appeared. Some videos are telling people what commodities are worth buying. Some short videos even sell bad commodities, and it is hard for customers to get their money back. So we should think twice before we want to buy the commodities by short videos.

More than 4, 000 years ago, ancient Egyptians used dried leaves to treat pain. And in the fourth century B. C. , a medicine made from tree bark (树皮) {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(use) to treat fevers. In the nineteenth century, European scientists discovered that both medicines have the same chemical (化学物质). They used the chemical to make a modern medicine—aspirin. Today, it's one of the world's {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cheap) and most helpful medicines. 

Some of the medicines we have today come {#blank#}4{#/blank#}traditional Chinese medicine. In the third century B. C. , some people {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(begin) studying the human body. They tried many different ways to treat the patients and recorded 71. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(they) results. For more than 2, 000 years, doctors recorded {#blank#}7{#/blank#}they found in books. These ancient books are still useful today. Tu Youyou, a Chinese medical researcher, found that in {#blank#}8{#/blank#}past, people used a herb with yellow flowers to treat fevers. After studying it, she developed a medicine that saved millions of people from dying. 

For {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(century), Western medicine paid little attention to traditional Chinese medicine. But today, scientists are studying traditional treatments {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(develop) new medicines.
