I have a neighbor we call “Happy”. I have never seen her angry at anything and never heard her say a harsh word to anyone or about anyone.
Happy and her husband Ben, 70, have a huge garden. They spent many happy hours together working on it. Most of the neighbors watched interestingly as Ben doubled the size of their garden. As the cost of food climbed faster than Ben's beans, we all wished we also had such a large garden. As the rest of us spent our dollars at the market, Happy could be seen picking beans in her back yard.
Last month, Happy and Ben invited most of the neighborhood over for an “all-day food festival”. We were told to bring gloves and arrive very early in the morning. We didn't know what was about to take place.
By 9:00 am, there were nine of us in the garden picking tomatoes, beans, okra, and squash. By 10:00 am, there was lots of laughter. We shared a lot of stories. By five o'clock, everyone was a little drunk from the wine and beer. After dinner, we played games. As we were leaving, Happy and Ben handed each of us a shopping bag filled with the bounty of the day, already packaged and frozen. What a delightful gift!
Well, the point wasn't so much about the food. The true gift was a day of friends enjoying one another's company. None of it would have happened if it had been for Happy and Ben's garden. Now they have a blog about gardening in case we decided to plant a garden. And I am so proud of my tomato plants!

(1)、According to paragraph 2, people wished they also had a garden so that                  .

A、they could spend happy times together with their family in it B、they could grow vegetables and sell at the market C、they could invite their neighbors and hold parties in it D、they didn't have to spend so much money on food
(2)、Which of the following is the same as the underlined word “bounty”?

A、Present B、Kindness C、Laughter D、Happiness
(3)、For what purpose did Happy and Ben invite the neighbors to their garden?

A、To ask them to attend a birthday party B、To help them get to know each other C、To let them enjoy what they grew in the garden D、To ask them to share some interesting stories
(4)、What did the writer most probably think of the time he spent in the garden?

A、He thought it was too short but enjoyable. B、He thought it was wonderful C、He thought it was not as good as he thought. D、He thought it was too terrible.
(5)、We can infer that                     .

A、Happy and her husband Ben don't like spending time with others B、Happy and her husband Ben sometimes quarrel with each other C、Happy and her husband Ben are a generous and warm-hearted couple D、Happy and her husband Ben live on the food they grow in their garden
举一反三
Once I thought love meant flowers, gifts and sweet kisses (吻). So, I really doubt (怀疑) whether (是否) there is love between my parents. Every day they are very busy trying to make money to pay the schooling for me. They don't act in the romantic ways that I read in books or I see on TV, and sending flowers to each other on Valentine's Day is even impossible.
One day, my mother was sewing a quilt (被子). I asked her if there was love between them. She stopped her work and looked up with surprise. Then she bowed (弯下) her head and continued sewing the quilt. I was very worried because I thought I hurt her. But after a few minutes she said, “Look at this thread (线). Sometimes it appears, but most of the time it disappears in the quilt. If life is a quilt, then love should be a thread. It can hardly (几乎不) be seen anywhere or anytime, but it's really there, and makes the quilt long-lasting.” I listened carefully but I couldn't understand her until the next spring.
My mother suddenly got sick seriously and had to stay in the hospital for a one-month treatment. Every morning and dusk (黄昏) after she returned from the hospital, my father helped my mother walk slowly on the country road. There were many beautiful flowers, green grass and trees, and the sun gently shone them through the leaves. All of these made up the most beautiful picture in the world. Reading their eyes, I knew they loved each other deeply. From this experience, I realized that love was just a thread in the quilt of our life. Love is inside, making life strong and warm.

"Has anyone seen my notebook?" Jo asked. "You're never going to see it again because I burned it!" Amy said. Jo's face turned pale. She grabbed her shoulders and shook her. "You're a wicked, wicked little girl!" Jo cried. " I'll never forgive (原谅) you !"

When Mrs March came home and heard the story, she said to Amy, "How could you do that?" Those were stories Jo hoped to get printed in the newspaper."

Amy realized what a terrible thing she had done and started to cry. Later, she begged Jo to forgive her, but Jo answered, "I'll never forgive you."

The next day, Jo went to skate with Laurie. Amy went there, too. Jo turned away when she saw her.

"The ice in the middle isn't safe!" called Laurie, "Stay near the edge." Jo heard the warning, but Amy didn't. She skated to the middle of the river. Suddenly, the ice cracked. Amy fell through the ice with a loud cry. Jo and Laurie pulled Amy out and quickly took frightened girl home.

Mother wrapped Amy in blanket. She soon fell asleep. Jo asked her mother, "Are you sure she will be OK?" "Yes, it's a good thing you got her home so quickly."

"Thanks to Laurie, it's my fault! I lose my temper (脾气) so easily. Why can't I be more like you?" "I get angry every day," said Mrs March. "But I've learned to hide it. I don't allow all of those angry words to leave my lips. You'll learn to do the same one day."

Jo began to cry. This made Amy open her eyes and smile. Her smile hit Jo straight in the heart. They hugged on another. Everything was forgiven and forgotten.
