Inventions have the power to change our world. Some inventions are designed for work. Some are just for fun. Others can help people and the planet. D | {#blank#}4{#/blank#}Smog is a silent killer. It can cause diseases that harm our lungs. US company 3M has created a new material for roofing shingles (屋顶瓦片). The material makes use of the sun to fight smog. When sunlight hits the roof, the material on the roof is activated (被激活). It then changes harmful particles in smog into water-soluble ions (水溶性离子). Later, the ions can be washed away by rain. |
E | {#blank#}5{#/blank#}James P Allison from the US and Japanese researcher Tasuku Honjo discovered a new kind of cancer treatment that earned them the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in October. The new treatment can make our immune systems (免疫系统) strong enough to effectively fight cancer cells. It is hoped that this treatment can be used to treat most cancers in the future. |
