It is not a secret {#blank#}1{#/blank#} trees are vital to our life. They provide us with food, wood and most {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (important), oxygen. Now there is one more thing we can add to this list—blocking out harmful bacteria from water.

    The discovery {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (make) by a team {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (consist) of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and high school students {#blank#}5{#/blank#} were seeking a natural water filter(过滤)—one that would help communities in developing countries that do not have {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (accessible) to modern water filter systems.

    The {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (research), led by Professor Rohit Karnik, decided to turn{#blank#}8{#/blank#} trees for help, because they could allow liquid to flow through, while blocking out air bubbles.

    They began by cutting 1.5-inch-wide sections of tree bark from the branches of a white pine tree. The people related then tested the wood's filtering ability by pouring water containing red dye particles of different sizes through. To their {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (amaze), they found that it was effective in trapping all the particles. Greatly {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (encourage), the team conducted another experiment, this time with water that contained bacteria. Sure enough, the sapwood held back 99% of the bacteria, allowing only 1% to flow through.

    According to a recent survey, violence did {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(existence) in schools. Students showed their fear and parents and teachers also expressed their great concern about it. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (obvious), it's time for the whole society to pay more attention to the mental health of adolescents (青少年).

    I had to visit my sister in another town because her husband {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) very ill. My children stayed back in {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (they) father's care, except for the youngest.      Li worked as a miner for more than ten years. After {#blank#}4{#/blank#}mine closed down, Li turned to housing decoration, until he {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(force) to give that up due to a finger injury. Earlier this year, he discovered sugar painting, something he really had an interest in and a strong desire to learn.

     Since there was no sugar painting craftsman in his village, he studied by {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(he) through large quantities of videos and information on the internet. Li loved painting when he was young, and he found it easy{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(learn) the skill in sugar painting. He soon mastered the skill and could make a {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(vary) of sugar paintings. A sugar painting is made with melted brown or white sugar. Craftsmen {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(normal) paint animals and flowers on a stone board with the syrup(糖浆). When the sugar cools down, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}appears is a piece of sugar art.

    When your dream is to become a footballer, nothing should get in your way—even if you are disabled.

    Gabriel Muniz, an 11-year-old Brazilian kid, was born without {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Although his family thought he would have trouble {#blank#}2{#/blank#} a normal life, he started walking before he was one year old. His mother would go after him, expecting him to keep falling, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} he never fell. He took a while to make the jump from walking to playing football. In fact, there' s nothing he loves more than playing football. In his school, Gabriel not only does {#blank#}4{#/blank#} than other players in his school team but also is the captain of his gym team.

Watching him play is unbelievable. In the past few years he {#blank#}8{#/blank#} a number of football skills. He does everything he can to copy Messi who he admires most. Luckily, he {#blank#}9{#/blank#} to go to Spain to meet his idol Messi and showed his talent in the Barcelona Football Club last year.

    Besides his talent, several achievements of {#blank#}10{#/blank#} were also surprising. His coach said he is proving that the disability only lies inside our heads and he is challenging the social rules.
