We had a terrible school trip last week．Some students were late．Then we waited half an hour for the school bus，but it didn't arrive. In the end，the teacher took us by subway．It took over an hour．When we arrived at the zoo，we were all tired and hungry．We wanted to see elephants．but there weren't any．There were some really smart seals(海豹)，but we didn't see the show．We arrived too late．We forgot our cameras，so we didn't take any photos．Then it started to rain，and nobody had an umbrella．So we went for lunch and ate some pizza．My friends had some ice-cream，too．I didn't have any because I don't like it．We didn't see many animals because it rained．Finally we went back to school．We were wet and tired．I didn't enjoy my school trip at all!

    Would you like to eat a root? You probably already have. People and animals eat many kinds of roots. ①Most roots that people eat are usually called root vegetables. A root vegetable is what we call veggies that grow underground.

    A carrot   is one type of root vegetable. It is the orange, edible root of the carrot plant. ②to, many, in, like, people, salad, put, it(.) A turnip , is another root vegetable. It is a member of the cabbage family. Turnips are usually eaten boiled, steamed, roasted, fried, pickled, or even raw.

    ③Although some people do not consider potatoes to be a veggie, but they are a root vegetable.

    People like to eat them mashed, boiled, and fried. Sweet potatoes, yams, beets, and leeks are some other root vegetables that people like to eat.

A School in Britain

    I get up and get dress for school. My school has a uniform-black trousers and shoes, a white shirt and a black and gold tie. The girls wear the same, or they can wear a black skirt.

    I don't live far from the school, so l walk there with my friends. Lots of students take the school or their parents drive them to school.

    Students all study English, maths and science, and we can choose others. My favorites are arts and IT.

    We have 20 minutes for break in the morning and an hour for lunch. Some students bring sandwiches to school for lunch, hut my friends and I often eat in the dinning room.

    Lessons end at 4 o'clock, but on Mondays and Wednesdays I stay at school until 5 o'clock. I go to the Chess Club and Basketball Club. There are lots of clubs and activities at our school.

    'USA? Britain? Which country is better to study in?' We often hear such discussions. As China opens its door, it is a dream for many Chinese students to study abroad. They want to learn about the outside world.

    It's true that studying abroad can help students develop themselves. Their foreign language skills will be improved and it may be easier to find jobs.

    But there are problems that should be considered. Language is the first. Students must spend a lot of time learning another language.    

    Students must also learn to live without parents' care and deal with all kinds of things they haven't had to do before, like looking after themselves. There are reports about Chinese students abroad running into an ocean of difficulties and giving up finally. When they have to take care of themselves, it is hard for students to study well.

    Finally, studying abroad brings a heavy burden (负担) to the family. For most Chinese parents, the cost of studying abroad is very high. But is it worth it?

    We know that there are many famous people who have achieved success through their hard work in China. Liu Xiang is a good example. Once an American teacher invited him there, but he refused. He kept training hard with his Chinese teacher. He surprised the world when he won a gold medal at the Athens Olympic Games. So when you wonder which country is better to study in, think again.
