One afternoon, on my way home, I saw a car accident (事故)!

    I asked people for help, but no one stopped. When the car driver and his wife saw this, they quickly closed the window of the car and drove away. "What shall I do? The old man needs help," I thought.

    At that time, a truck stopped and the driver came out. "What's wrong with the old man? What can I do?" the driver asked me. "Sir, please help the old man. A car hit him and he is badly hurt!" I said. "well, don't worry. Let me take him to the hospital first," the driver said.

    A few minutes later, the driver took the old man to the hospital and I called the police. I told the whole story to the police and I also told them the number of the car. The police said to me, "Well done, boy! Leave it to us, We will punish (惩罚) them!"

    When I got home, it was 7: 30. I thought I was great.

    An old man lived with his little grandson. Every day the old man got up early to read books. His grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to copy him in every 1 he could.

    One day the grandson asked, "Grandpa, I want to read books as you do. But I don't understand it, and I always forget 2 I close the book. What good does 3 do?"

    The grandfather quietly turned back from putting 4 in the stove and replied, "Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water."

    The boy did as his grandpa said, but all the water leaked (漏) out before he got back home.

    The next time the boy ran faster, but the basket was still empty before he 5 home. The boy said, "see, Grandpa, it's 6 to do the work!"

    Rosa's parents were separated. Nine monthsout of the year, Rosa lived with her mother in an apartment on Anderson Street.But when summer2, she went to her father's farm inArizona.

    The farm was great! Rosa rode horses andhelped with some farm work. Her father, however, was so3 that he couldn't find time to go to otherplaces with her. When she arrived each summer, her father would meet her at theairport and take her out to eat. And the day she went back to the city he wouldalways buy her a present.

    When summer came to a close, Rosa returnedto her mother. At school she heard lots of stories her friends told about theirfamily trips. Rosa wished she had a4totalk about too.

    Not long after5 began, Rosa was looking through travelmagazines in the school library. They talked about many exciting places, likeEngland and Germany. When Rosa's friends asked what she had done in the summer,she made up something that was not6. Remembering the travelmagazines she had read, she told her classmates that she and her father hadgone to England.

    When the class began studying England, MrThomas asked Rosa to tell all the things she could7 about her trip to England!

    Gary and Gavin were twin brothers who worked in a store owned by their father. After the father had passed away, they took over the store. Everything went well until the day a twenty-dollar bill disappeared. Gary had left the bill on the cash register (收银台). But when he returned, the money was gone.

    Gary then asked his brother Gavin, "Did you see that twenty-dollar bill on the cash register?' Gavin said that he had not. But Gary did not let it go and kept asking. "Twenty-dollar bills can't walk away by themselves! Surely you must have seen it." "I said I didn't see it!" Gavin replied with anger.

   The quarrel divided the young men and they could no longer work together. Later, a wall was built in the center of the store. For twenty years, hostility (敌意) never ended.

    One day, a strange man came to the store. He walked in and asked Gary, "How long have you been here?" Gary replied that he'd been there all his life. "Then you are the person I'm looking for," the man said. "Twenty years ago, I was totally broke and hungry. I entered this store from the back door and saw a twenty-dollar bill on the cash register. And I took it. All these years I haven't been able to forget that. I had to come back and apologize for that.

    The stranger felt shocked when seeing tears well up in the eyes of the middle-aged man in front of him. "Would you please go next door and tell the same story to the man in the store?" Gary asked. Then something surprised the stranger even more--after hearing his story, the two middle-aged men hugged each other and cried together in the front of the wall of the store.

    After twenty years, the wall that separated them finally came down.

Once there were two neighbors living next to each other. One of them was a retired(退休的) teacher and the other was an engineer. 1 of them planted the same plants in their gardens. The retired teacher was giving a small number of water to his plants and he didn't always give a full attention to them. But the other neighbor gave a lot of water to his plants. He 2 them too well. One day,a rainstorm started suddenly during the night. The next morning, the engineer was 3 to see that his plants came off from the roots(根). But the retired teacher's plants grew very well. The engineer went to the retired teacher and asked," We both grew the same plants together. I took care of my plants 4 than you did for yours, and even gave them more water. Still, my plants came off from the roots, while yours didn't. How is that possible?" The retired teacher smiled and said," You gave your plants more attention and water, but because of that they didn't need to work 5 for water. You made it easy for them. While I gave them just proper(恰当的) water and 6 their roots search(寻找) for more. And their roots went deeper and deeper, which made them 7 "

Florence Nightingale was a nurse and the founder of modern nursing. Her parents gave the name for her because she was born in Florence, Italy. She liked visiting sick people and helping them,{#blank#}1{#/blank#} she often went to the hospitals. She decided to become a nurse so that she could help more people in need. 

In 1853, the Crimean War broke out. She chose to go to a British military (军事的) hospital {#blank#}2{#/blank#} she could take care of the wounded soldiers. What she saw there was terrible, because it was very dirty in the hospital. 

She {#blank#}3{#/blank#} hard so that she could make the hospital clean and save many soldiers' lives. In 1859, Florence wrote several books about nursing so that she {#blank#}4{#/blank#} start the first training school for nurses later. On 13th August 1910, she died. 

Florence Nightingale was a great hero in a special way {#blank#}5{#/blank#} she set a good example for the women in the world.
