When people talk about air pollution, they usually think of smog, acid rain (酸性雨), and other forms (形式) of outdoor air pollution. But did you know that air pollution also is inside homes, offices, hotels and other buildings?Indoor air pollution is more serious. The air in your home can be 2 to 100 times (倍数) more polluted than the air outdoors!In fact, some American doctors say that 50% of illnesses have something to do with polluted indoor air. Indoor air pollution is bad for our health in many ways. Young children and the old often suffer(遭受) more from air pollution. People with health problems may also suffer more when the air is polluted. Indoor air pollution can be bad for people's eyes, nose and throat. Air pollution, both indoor and outdoor, can also lead to cancer, heart disease, and even bad for the brain!In the great London fog in 1952, 4, 000 people died in a few days because of air pollution!It is said that half a million young kids and women die each year in India because of indoor air pollution!

There're many ways to reduce (减少) indoor air pollution. Here are some of them and see if they can help you:

★Increase outdoor air coming indoors and open your windows for 15 to 30 minutes each day.

★Turn off all the lights and fans when you don't need them.

★Share your room with others when the air conditioner is running.

★Don't smoke and try to stop your family members from smoking. People who smoke are going to have trouble breathing and even die someday. If you're smart, don't ever start.

★Environment-friendly products, such as water-based paints pollute less and work well.

The traditional Chinese lunar calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. Grain Rain(谷雨), at the last term in spring, generally starts on April 20th and ends on May 4th.

Grain Rain comes from an old saying, "Rain brings up the growth of hundreds of grain", which shows that this period of rainfall is very important for the growth of crops. Here's something that you may not know about the Grain Rain.

Seasonal characteristics

When the Grain Rain ends, the summer starts And the temperature rises much higher than it does in March, With dry soil and heavy winds, sandstorms may happen more often.

Customs in southern China

There is an old custom in southern China that people drink tea on the day of Grain Rain. Spring tea during Grain Rain is good for the eyes.

Traditions in northern China

People in northern China have the tradition to cat the vegetable toona sinensis(香椿) during Grain Rain. An old Chinese saying goes "toona sinensis before the rain is just like silk". The vegetable is good for the stomach and skin.

Grain Rain Festival

The Grain Rain Festival is celebrated by fishing villagers in northern China. Grain Rain marks the start of the fisherman's first voyage(航行) of the year. The custom dates back to(追溯到) more than 2000 years ago.

Students at the primary school and junior high school in Shenzhen are having daily PE. Is it good?

Buxin Primary School in Luohu District uses a"3+1+1" model —three regular(正规的)PE classes, one music-based exercise class, and one sports game class. That is, students have a total of five PE classes per week.

One problem is the number of PE teachers is not enough to teach all the new classes. Teachers from other subjects even have to lead many of the PE classes. Liu Xunhua,a Chinese-language teacher at the school, has also taken on the role of a part-time PE teacher. Liu leads students in activities such as jumping ropes and jumping jacks.

Another problem is that there is limited(有限的) space. "At most, there will be eight classes in PE at the same time," said Sun Shou-ping, director of the school's PE team. Longhua Foreign Languages School also makes full use of all spaces in the school. For example, students can practise running uphill and do jumping exercises on the steps. If there are too many PE classes at the same time, teachers can also take students to the public basketball court at the Luhuo park, which is just across the street from the school playground.

Students truly welcome the new measure. However, there are also concerns. Both parents and teachers are afraid the reduced(减少的) learning time for other subjects may lead to bad grades.
