Have you ever heard an echo of your voice?
An echo is a reflected(反射)sound. Stand in a very large, empty hall with nothing on the walls. Then shout. The sounds you make will hit the walls and come back to you. The walls reflect the sounds. These reflected sounds are called “echoes”.
We can use reflected sound to make sound travel farther. Hold a watch about fifty centimeters from your ear. You cannot hear it. The sound of the watch travels a short way in all directions. It does not travel as far as your ear. You can make it travel to your ear by using a roll of cardboard(纸板筒).
Make the roll of cardboard about fifty centimeters long. Put one end over your ear and hold the watch at the other. Now you can hear the watch because the sound has not gone in all directions. It is reflected down the roll to your ear.
A megaphone(喇叭筒)works in the same way. It makes sound travel farther. It reflects the sound into a beam which can travel a long way. In the ship, the sailor uses the megaphone to make his voice travel. Without the megaphone, his voice cannot travel far.
We use reflected sound in many ways. We use it to measure the depth of the sea, for example. Among the animals, bats and whales use reflected sound to tell them where they are and what things are near them.

The domestic(国内的) animated(动画) film Chang'an San Wan Li, or 30,000 Miles from Chang'an, has caused a lot of interest in traditional Chinese poetry and discussions about the poets of the Tang Dynasty (618-907) shown in the movie, including Li Bai, Gao Shi and Du Fu.

The film not only shows the rise and fall of Chang'an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty, but also shows the constellation(群英荟萃) of great Tang Dynasty poets, making audiences see traditional Chinese culture on the big screen.

The friendship between Gao Shi and Li Bai showed in the film touched many people. "The description of the admiration between the poets, supporting each other in troubled times, made me feel the warmth of the film and the true reasons why Chang'an is more than just the name of a capital city but a cultural symbol," one moviegoer(影迷) said.

The film uses a total of 48 Tang Dynasty poems, sharing the rich literary(文学) treasures of the dynasty. Among them, Li Bai's timeless masterpieceInvitation to Wine(将进酒), written while he was enjoying the wine with friends under the night sky, has been praised as the film's most wonderful moment.

"The Invitation to Wine segment is the pinnacle(高潮) of the whole story. At first, when reading the poem, one can only feel its boldness(大胆). But in the film, through picture language, I felt Li Bai's helplessness about aging and his sighs of unfulfilled dreams," said one Weibo user.

In a new study, researchers found a fact. Whether it's sports practice, music lessons or a usual catch- up with friends, when children are doing after- school activities, they may feel happier and healthier than those who always look at a screen.

What's more, children's happiness improved when they joined in after- school activities, while things were completely  when they spent time on social media (媒体) or playing video games.

The researchers studied 61,759 school students from Grade Four to Grade Nine. They worked out how many days every week children joined in after- school activities from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Then they compared the number to well- being factors (幸福的因素 ) like satisfaction, sadness and worry.

Lead researcher Dr. Rosa Virgara said the research showed how some out- of- school activities can improve children's happiness, while others, especially screens, can be bad for their mental(精神上的) and physical health." Screens are a big distraction(分散注意力的事物) for children of all ages. Whether children are playing games, watching TV or using social media, there is something about all screens that hurts their happiness," she said.

The study also showed that even children who were already happy also benefited (得益于) from joining in after- school activities." This shows that there is a big need to find ways to encourage children of all ages and backgrounds to join in activities that keep them away from TVs, computers and smart phones," Dr. Rosa Virgara said.

 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。

①In most places in the world today, it is easy to find healthy food. With supermarkets, buying healthy food like fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat is easy and convenient(便利的). However, it is also easy to find unhealthy food today. Supermarkets and other stores sell good food, but they also sell frozen foods and junk food like chips, candy, and cookies. A lot of food today has chemicals(化学药品). Research has shown that many of these chemicals are bad for our health. So did people in the past eat healthier than we do today?

②A century ago, people didn't eat junk food or frozen food. Instead, they ate natural foods without chemicals. On the other hand, their natural foods were not always as good as food today. In the past, meat often came from sick animals. It's not healthy to eat meat from a sick animal. In most places today, laws make sure that food is safe.

③In most countries today, we can buy a variety(各种)of foods. We can buy oranges in the winter and apples in the summer. Healthy fruits and vegetables are available(可获得的)at any time of year. These foods come from all over the world. In the past, this kind of variety was not possible. People could eat certain foods only in certain seasons.

④We also eat much more meat, sugar, fattening foods, and chemicals today than people did a century ago. Studies show that these things can cause(引起)heart disease(疾病)and a variety of other health problems. However, people live much longer now. Today, the average(平均)person lives for 70 to 80 years. However,100 years ago, the average person lived for only about 50 years. People live longer because we have better medicine now. But people also have longer lives because healthy food is usually available.

⑤So ____? Yes and no. People in the past did eat more natural food than we do now. But, in some ways, we also eat better today. We can eat healthier today than people did in the past. We just have to choose to eat good foods.
