What will the home of the future look like? A team of architects (建造师) in Hong Kong say that city homes will be tiny, as populations continue to grow and space becomes more expensive. They have designed “space flats”. 83它们只有30 平米大。These flats have three small rooms, a living room, a bathroom and a bedroom, as well as a balcony (阳台),but everything is carefully planned to make good use of the limited space.
The living room is the main room of the flat. It can be used as an office, a kitchen or even a second bedroom. There is a sofa that can be changed into a bed. The dining table can be changed into a computer desk. And, if not needed, both the sofa-bed and the table can be folded away and stored into a small apace in the wall. There is a flat-screen TV, which can also serve as a computer monitor. In one corner of the room, a small cooker, a microwave oven and a miniature refrigerator are hidden out of sight.
The other rooms are small but useful. The bathroom contains a toilet and a shower. The double bed in the bedroom can also be a sofa, if necessary, The balcony has enough room for two people to sit and enjoy the view from the block of flats. All the rooms have high ceiling to provide as much storage space as possible, while the flat has large windows to let in plenty of sunlight.

Dear Know,

I need some advice on how to make friends! I have just moved to a new city. I am 13. I don't know anybody here and I want to make some friends. What's the best way? Where can I meet people?

                                                                                                                           Yours,

                                                                                                                                Tony

Dear Tony,

There are lots of things you can do. First, you can ride your bike in your neighbourhood and try to find some kids. When you find some, you can go up and talk to them. You should also let your parents know that you want to make friends because they can help you. Maybe you can ask your parents to take you to the library or some places where there are lots of kids. You could try joining an art class or a sports club. These are all great ways to meet people. You can also try making friends at churches (教堂) if you go to churches on Sundays. Try to be active wherever you are, but just be yourself and don't try so hard. It takes time and patience. I hope you will find a best friend soon!

                                                                                                                 Yours,

                                                                                                                         Know

Back in the twentieth century, robots seemed to have a big future, at least in the movies. Like the robots servants in the Star War movies. It looked as if one day robots would do all the boring or dangerous jobs while the humans sat around doing something more interesting. But people were also frightened that robots might become the bosses, not the servants.

Has it happened? You're still unlikely to see a robot walking around your town but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Robots are used in car making, and in areas which are dangerous for humans, in bomb producing and deep-sea discovering, for example. We employ robots instead of doing the job ourselves. According to the report, there are 750,000 working robots in the world today.

These working robots definitely look like machines but many scientists are now trying to make robots look more similar to humans. So what will robots be able to do by the year 2030? There are already plans to use robots in hospitals and old people's homes. Robot nurses will remind patients to take their medicine or tell a doctor if the patient needs attention. But many people are worried about the idea of robots looking after the old, the sick and the very young, separating them from important human contact. It may also create unemployment. It is really possible that robots will be used for many jobs in areas.

But can we be sure that the next generation robots will always follow human orders? Or even destroy them? Or will we be able to create robots with emotions? Only the future will tell.

Have you ever heard the saying "There is no place like home!" This is just another way of saying that home is a very special place. Our bedroom, our family, our pets, and all of the things we love are at home.

Is home a place where you can relax and have fun? Is home a place where you get all of your best thinking done? Being at home means different things to different people. As people grow older, home usually represents more responsibility (责任) because it needs care inside and out. Who takes care of all of these things in your home? How do you help out?

There are many different kinds of homes. Some people live in apartments, condos, or single﹣family homes. Homes have different rooms that are used for different purpose. The kitchen, the bedrooms, the living room and the bathroom each have their own use. Suppose your house does not have a roof and you are a bird flying over it, what does your house look like? Think about it.

Some people might say that family and food are two of the best parts of being home. At home, you can tell your parents about your day, play with your pets, and grab a snack from the cupboard of fridge. You can relax in your room and read a book or play a game. You can ask friends over to play. Home is a place to take care of and be grateful for. Even though you are young, you can help to make a nice place to be. After all, home is where the heart is!
