A young man was traveling down a country road, going a bit too fast in his new car. There were many kids playing between the cars parked on the side of the street.

    As his car passed, one child suddenly appeared and threw a brick at the car. The man stopped the car and jumped out. He caught the kid and shouted at him, “What are you doing?” He continued shouting, “That's a new car. It will be expensive to fix the damage you did with that brick. Why did you do it?” “I'm sorry. I didn't know what else to do. It's my brother,” he said, “He rolled（滚落）off the side of the road and fell out of his wheelchair. I can't lift him up. He is hurt and he is too heavy for me.”

    The young man felt shameful and said nothing. He lifted the kid's brother back into the wheelchair.

    “Thank you, sir.” the child said. The man then watched the little boy push his brother toward their home.

    The young man did not repair the dent（凹槽）in his car. He can hear the boy's hopeless voice whenever he saw it.

    Sometimes, when you don't make the time to listen, life throws a brick at your head.

It was about two o'clock in the early morning. I was sleeping when the earthquake started. At first，I felt a little shake. Then I1 a loud noise like thunder（雷声）. 

Soon the real noise came，like bombs（爆炸）under the2 . The building began to shake hard. People shouted and ran out of the building. I tried my best to3 out too，but I could not. Outside，people were running everywhere4 pieces of glass and bricks（砖）were falling down. Then the walls began to come down too!

Finally，the noise and shaking5 . It was dark and silent around me. I could see6 ，and I did not know if anyone else was near me. I felt afraid and my heart was beating fast. I knew I was in danger，but I told myself to7 . 

I shouted for help，but no one came. I started to feel my way through the dark. Luckily，there was just8 space for me to move. 

Hours later，as I was9 to find my way out，I suddenly heard some noise above me. I shouted，"Help!Please help!I'm here!"Then I heard shouts from excited people. They10 moved away the bricks. At last，I saw the bright daylight. I was safe. 

It was the last day of the school year. The classroom was filled with excitement. When our teacher, Mr. Johnson, walked in, holding a CD player, everyone's face lit up with a smile. We knew that this wasn't going to be another normal day, but a special one.

"Please calm down and sit," said Mr. Johnson, "I'm glad everyone's here for the final reading test of the year." When everyone cried, Mr. Johnson laughed, saying it was just a joke. Then he reminded us that we still had a job to do. "You need to clean out your desks and put all your things into your backpacks," he added gently.

As we began our task, Mr. Johnson turned on the CD player. The lively music made the room feel like a party. Some of us started singing along with the music, and others were dancing around their desks while they were cleaning them out. Even Mr. Johnson showed us a few dance steps, making everyone laugh heartily. After we finished cleaning, someone asked, "When is break time?" Mr. Johnson took out some balls and started playing with them. Suddenly, he let the balls drop and said, "Break time starts... now!"

Just as we were about to rush out, our headmaster, Mrs. Miller, appeared at the door. "Mr. Johnson!" She cried out. A moment of silence fell over the room as we thought, "Mr. Johnson might be in trouble." However, to our surprise, Mrs. Miller couldn't help but laugh at the sight and left us to enjoy our break.

During break time, Mr. Johnson surprised us with another treat. He went to the cafe and came back with ice creams for everyone. We all cheered for him!

As we walked back to the classroom, we passed Mrs. Miller's office. Someone joked, "Don't play with the ice creams, Mr. Johnson!" We all laughed together.

On May 15, 2023, the Activity of Choosing People Who Moved Liangshan（凉山） in 2022 was held in Xichang. Ten people  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}  the proud prize. Among them was Lou Se'er whose four children got into the famous universities in China. Two of them are studying in Tsinghua University. He was given a special prize by the government on October 31st, 2022. It's impossible for him to get such special prizes  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the great effort.

Luo and his wife live in a small mountain village in Butuo. They have a common and hard life as most other  {#blank#}3{#/blank#} in their neighborhood. They have little education, but how can they bring up four excellent children? Luo told reporters about his "secrets of  {#blank#}4{#/blank#}  education." "I hope my children can get more education and have a better future." said Luo. "My wife and I faced lots of challenges and difficulties. We don't know  {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to read or write. We can hardly count."

They  {#blank#}6{#/blank#}  realized the importance of education for their children. They made up their minds  {#blank#}7{#/blank#}  them to good schools. They can't help their children with studying at home during weekends, summer and winter vacations. The children have to learn by  {#blank#}8{#/blank#}  and sometimes the elder brothers helped their younger brother and sister. They studied very hard and made great progress in examinations. "My all children are in good universities. In fact, there is no  {#blank#}9{#/blank#} . It's just a wholehearted decision, I together with my wife will support them all the time as long as they need. We think hard work plays a very  {#blank#}10{#/blank#} role towards success." added Luo.

Many people are touched by the story about the poor family—parents with little education and four  {#blank#}11{#/blank#}  children. They believe that the Luos' life must become better and better.

 That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in San Francisco. There I was walking home at I am in the morning after a tiring practice at the theatre. With opening night only a week away,I was still learning my lines(台词). I was having trouble dealing with my part- time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and San Francisco. City life had become too much for me.

 As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away any possible robbers(强盗). Very few people were still out except a few sad- looking homeless people under blankets(毯子).

 About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was a shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.

 Suddenly I wasn't cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I'd heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

 Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside," Alisa Camacho?"I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red- haired man with a cheerful look in his eyes." Is this what you' re looking for?" he asked, holding up a small square shape.

 It was nearly 3 am by the time I got into bed. I wouldn't get much sleep that night, but I had got my wallet back. I also had got back some enjoyment of city life.

There is some good news for the students at Yangguang Middle School. Our school  {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(ask) students about their hobbies last week. And based on these results(基于这些结果), we have set up four interest groups. 

The first one is a collecting group. Most of the students like collecting things. For example, some students are interested in collecting {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(fan). Some students enjoy collecting money from different countries, like US {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(dollar). In this group, students can collect different things they like, and they can hold some activities to show their collections. 

Sports group is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} second. Many students like doing sports. That's {#blank#}5{#/blank#} it can help them stay fit. Students can play many ball games in this group. And they can also learn how{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(swim) and take part in some sports competitions. 

The cooking group is also interesting. Some students enjoy cooking, and they think cooking {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(bring) them joy. Some students want to make some dishes {#blank#}8{#/blank#} presents for their family. In this group, students can learn to cook different kinds of dishes, including(包括) cookies, noodles and soups. 

The last one is the reading group. Some students like reading books. They think reading gives them many {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(value) things and makes them improve a lot. Students can read any book{#blank#}10{#/blank#} their student cards in this group. 

These are four interest groups. We also plan to set up more groups in the future.
