“Dreams may be more important than sleep. We all need to dream” some scientists say. Dreams take up about one quarter of our sleeping time. People have several dreams each night.

    Dreams are like short films. They are usually in color. Some dreams are like old films. They come up over and over again. That may be the dreamer worrying about something. Dreaming may be a way of trying to find an answer.

    Some people get new ideas about their work from dreams. They may have been thinking about their work all day. These thoughts can carry over into dreams.

    Too much dreaming can be harmful. The more we sleep, the longer we dream. The mind is still at work when we dream. That is why we may have a long sleep and still tired after waking up.

    The tiger is the largest wild cat in the world. It is the king of animals. Tigers often eat 5kg of meat for a meal. Tigers can see very well in the dark. They often hunt at night. Sometimes they can eat 27kg of meat at one night. Most members of the cat family dislike water, but tigers enjoy water. They are good at swimming. Many animals live in groups, but tigers live alone（单独地）, except for（除了） mothers and their young babies. A mother tiger usually has two or three babies at one time. She takes care of them by herself.

    There were eight kinds of tigers in the world, but three of them died out（灭绝）. There are only about 3200wild tigers in the world now because people kill tigers and destroy the places where they live.

    Some people wonder why countries spend millions of dollars on space projects. They want to know how space research helps people on Earth. Actually, space technology helps people on Earth every day. This is called "spinoff technology". Spinoff technology is space technology that is now used on Earth.

    In early space programs, such as the Apollo missions(任务) of the 1960s and 1970s, and in the space shuttle missions today, scientists developed objects for the astronauts to use on the moon and in space. We now use some of these objects every day. For example, we have Quartz clocks and watches with an accuracy of one minute a year. We purify the water we drink with a water filter(过滤器) designed for the astronauts' use in space. The cordless, hand-held tools we use in our homes, such as cleaners, flashlights, drills, and irons came from the technology of these early space programs.

    On cold winter days, we can stay warm with battery - operated shoes and socks, and insulated(绝缘的) coats and jackets. All of these clothes are similar to the spacesuit designs that keep astronauts comfortable in the temperatures of the moon, and are spinoffs from space technology.

    These products are only a few examples of the many ways space technology helps us in our everyday life. No one knows how new spinoff technology from the International Space Station will help us in the future.
