Long ago ,there lived in Greece a learned man. He was so well known for his good knowledge of almost everything that lots of people from all over the country came to learn from him. The great man taught his students whole-heartedly and answered their questions with great patience.
One day a student asked him, “ My dear teacher, didn't you say you yourself have many ,many more questions about things than we do? But I think we students have far more than you.”
With a smile on his face, the teacher drew two circles ,one as large as a big cake, the other smaller. Then he said , “Of course, I have learned much more. But it's wrong to think that a teacher has fewer questions than his students. Now, look at these two circles. The inside of the bigger one is my knowledge of things, and the inside of the smaller one is yours. Out of the circles is what is still unknown to us. Since mine is larger, I have to use the longer line to draw the bigger circle. That means I have more opportunities to face what is still unknown. And that's why I myself have more questions than you do. The more you learn , the more questions you have. You will never learn enough ,you know.”

Here are the posts in a chat(聊天) room on the Internet. In this chat room, parents are talking about some of the problems they have with their children.

Marisa

Is it ever OK to lie to a child? My 10- year- old son plays soccer. He's not very good at it, but he loves it. Yesterday he played very badly but happily. When he finished the game, he asked," Did I play well?"I said,"  * Yes! You' re a great soccer player!" Did I do the right thing?

Bay212

Yes, you did the right thing. Sometimes you have to tell lies that are not harmful. It's necessary to tell white lies in life. Your purpose was to make him feel good. Now he's ready to play soccer again.

Bemie

I don't think there is ever a good reason to lie to our children. Parents are children's examples. We should be honest in order to teach honesty to our children. If you keep hiding truth from them, they will not trust you or respect you. Honesty is the first step to build a good relationship between parents and children.

Missy

You lied to make your son feel better, but you missed a good chance to teach him a life lesson. People should work hard for what they want. Maybe next time you can say, " No! You didn't play well today. Great soccer players practice a lot. Let's go and practice." Tho truth will make him strong and a good soccer player.

Parviz

Parents should be honest to their children, but they don't have to tell the whole truth. Next time when your son asks, " Did I play well?" you can say,  " What do you think?" Then your son can tell you what he thinks. That way, everything you say is true, and you avoid the truth that hurts him.

 阅读下面短文,在空白处填入一个适当的词,或填入括号中所给单词的正确形式且不超过三个词。

One day, a fox {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (walk) through the woods when he saw some tasty grapes hanging from a branch high above him. He was quite{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (hunger).

At first, the fox tried to jump in the air and grab the grapes. But with each jump, he was just inches away{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the grapes. As he jumped again, he was getting much{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (far). He tried taking a few steps back and doing a running jump at the grapes after{#blank#}5{#/blank#} short rest--but again, he could not reach them. He even tried to climb the tree to reach the grapes, but his paws (爪子) weren't strong enough for him{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (pull) himself up the tree. How he wished he had the same paws {#blank#}7{#/blank#} a monkey!   He sat and stared at the grapes{#blank#}8{#/blank#} (angry). Just then, a bear happened to walk by the fox. He saw the fox looking at the grapes. The fox turned to him and said, "Never mind. Those grapes probably don't taste good anyway." And with that, he tried once more and {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (leave). The bear reached up, grabbed the grapes and ate them. They were, of course, quite delicious. It seemed that the fox decided that the grapes must be bad simply {#blank#}10{#/blank#} he couldn't have them.
