I was shopping in the supermarket when I heard a young voice.“Mom,come here! There's this lady here my size!”The mother rushed to her son;then she turned to me to say sorry to me. I smiled and told her,“It's OK.”Then I talked to the boy,“Hi,I'm Dory Kramer. How are you?”He studied me from head to toe,and asked,“Are you a little mommy?”
“Yes,I have a son,” I answered.
“Why are you so little?”he asked.
“It's the way I was born,” I said.“Some people are little. Some are tall. I'm just not going to grow any bigger.”After I answered his other questions,I shook the boy's hand and left.
My life as a little person is filled with stories like that. I enjoy talking to children and explaining why I look different from their parents.
It takes only one glance( 一瞥) to see I'm different. I stand three feet nine inches tall(="1.14" metres).I was born a dwarf . In spite of this,I did all the things other kids did when I was growing up.

举一反三
One day when some government officials were rebuilding a barn(谷仓), they found a mouse hole in a corner and used smoke to force the mice inside the hole to come out. A while later they indeed saw mice running out, one after another. Then, everyone thought that all the mice had escaped. But just as they began to clean up, they saw two mice squeezing(挤)out at the mouth of the hole. With some efforts, the mice finally got out. However, it was strange that after they came out of the hole, they did not run away at once. Instead, one chased after the other near the mouth of the hole. It seemed that one was trying to bite the tail of the other.
Everyone was puzzled, so they stepped nearer to take a look. They realized that one of the mice was blind and could not see anything, and the other was trying to allow the blind mouse to bite on his tail so that he could pull the blind one with him to escape.
After seeing what happened, everyone was speechless and lost in thought. During the meal time, the group of people sat down in a circle and started to chat about what happened to the two mice.
One serious American official said: “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of king and guard.” The others thought for a while and said: “That was why!”
A smart French said: “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of husband and wife.” Again the others thought for a while, and all felt it made sense.
A Japanese said: “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of mother and son.” Once again the others thought for a while, and felt this was more reasonable. So they expressed agreement another time.
At that moment, one Chinese asked: “Why did those two mice have to have a certain relationship?”
Suddenly, the group looked back at the Chinese and remained speechless. The American official, the French and the Japanese who had spoken earlier all lowered their heads in shame, and did not dare to answer.
In fact, the true love is not built on friendship, loyalty or blood relationship. Instead, it is based on no relationship.

Ronny looked like every other kid in the classroom where I volunteered as the Reading Mom. However, he had a speech problem so he couldn't 1 like other kids in his grade.

I worked with all the students in Ronny's class one by one to improve their reading skills. On the days when it was Ronny's 2, I'd give him a silent smile, that's why he sat very close to me and opened the book as if he was opening a treasure that 3 had ever seen.

I watched his fingers move 4 under each letter as he struggled* to read out. Every time he 5 to read a word with a strange pronunciation, the biggest smile would spread across his face and his 6 would shine with pride, which broke my heart each and every time.

A few weeks 7 the school year ended, I held an awards ceremony*. I presented Ronny with a book written by 8. A few days later, I returned to the school to visit. I 9 Ronny on a chair near the playground, the book open in his lap. His head teacher said, “ He hasn't 10 that book since you gave it to him. Do you know that's his first book he's ever actually owned?”

Deeply moved, I walked 11 Ronny, placed my hand on his shoulder and asked, “Will you read me your book, Ronny?” For the next few minutes, he read to me more 12 than I'd ever thought possible from him. The pages were already dog-eared, like the book had been read 13 times already. When he finished reading, Ronny closed his book and said with great satisfaction, “ 14 good book!"

At that moment,as a writer, I knew I would get 15 about my own writing and do what that writer had done, and probably still does — care enough to write a story that changes a child's life, care enough to make a difference.

Miss Mitra didn't want to be a Sunday school teacher any longer. The students there were all rude and never listened to her. "I give up." She shouted at the students. "Cool." Rick said. He was the most impolite kid in this school. Two months later, Miss Betty Ray came to the school. She looked young. The students thought that she wouldn't stay very long.

"Have any of you ever been out of state?" She asked in a friendly tone. A few hands went up.

"Anyone has traveled to California?" One hand went up as the disrespectful(无礼的) laugh reduced.

"Anyone visited outside the country?" No hands went up now. The silent kids were puzzled.

Betty took a map of the world from her bag.

"What else do you have there? Lunch?" Someone cracked.

Betty smiled lightly and answered, "Cookies for later." "Cool," Rick quipped(困惑的).

Then she pointed at a place on the map, "I was born here, and I lived here until I was about your age."

    "Is that Texas?" Someone asked.

"No. Quite a long way from here. It is Mumbai in India."

Betty fumbled again in her bag, this time pulling out some old wrinkled pictures along with a box of chocolate chip cookies. They passed the pictures around, viewing each with great interest.

The kids studied them as they bit into the sweets.

The hour quickly slid by as she told them her stories about faraway places and what the people were like there and how they lived.

"Wow, this is as exciting as TV!" One young girl told her.

Sunday after Sunday, Betty came to class, tying her lessons to their everyday lives. She told the kids how they could make a difference right now. The students grew to love her.

Betty taught that Sunday school class for thirty years. At last, her hair grew into a natural gray.

Every now and then, she received a letter from a former student. There was a doctor, a research scientist, a homemaker, a businessman, and many teachers among them. One day she pulled out a blue envelope from her mailbox. And there was a photo in it. Squinting her eyes, she smiled at the man in the photo, still seeing the boy in him. Standing in the rubble(瓦砾), in the city of Delhi, India, he came to help the homeless people in the earthquake. Some words were written in the upper part of the photo, "Because of you, I am here now."
