My mother was a housewife. She thought that successful people spent a lot more time {#blank#}1{#/blank#} than watching TV. So she asked my brother and me to read two books every week in our free time. She would check them with marks, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} she couldn't read the books at all.
When I went to school, I was an A-student, but not for long. I wanted cool {#blank#}3{#/blank#} and hung out with friends. I went from being an A-student to a C-student, but I didn't care. One night, I complained about not having enough Italian T-shirts. Then my mother gave me all her money. She said I could get the money {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to buy shirts if I finished buying all things the family needed. I was very {#blank#}5{#/blank#} that, but after I bought those things, there was no money left. I got to know how {#blank#}6{#/blank#} it was for my mother to do all this. I went back to my studies and become an A-student again. Finally, my dream {#blank#}7{#/blank#} and I become a doctor.
My story is really my mother's story--a woman with little education greatly changed my life as a {#blank#}8{#/blank#} . So, I believe there is no job more important than parenting.

    Cao Wenxuan, Chinese children's fiction (小说) writer, w{#blank#}1{#/blank#} the Hans Christian Andersen Prize(安徒生奖)in April, 2016 , in Italy .

Cao Wenxuan was b{#blank#}2{#/blank#} in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province and he has t{#blank#}3{#/blank#} in Beijing University for over 30 years. He has w{#blank#}4{#/blank#} over 150 stories and novels. Some of them have been t{#blank#}5{#/blank#}into English, F{#blank#}6{#/blank#}, Japanese and so on. I like reading the novel n{#blank#}7{#/blank#} “Grass House”. It is m{#blank#}8{#/blank#}up of nine parts which touched us deeply. The novel tells us how groups of children bravely f{#blank#}9{#/blank#} the difficulties and challenges of life. When the reporter I{#blank#}10{#/blank#} him, Cao Wenxuan said , “All of my stories are set in China, all of them are Chinese stories, but at the same time, they are the stories of the humankind(全人类).”

    One afternoon，I went into an art museum while waiting for my husband．I hoped to enjoy the works of art quietly．

    A young couple walked in front of me and talked {#blank#}1{#/blank#}the paintings between themselves all the time．The lady did almost all the talking，but the man kept listening to her．I thought the man was very patient {#blank#}2{#/blank#}nobody would like to be bothered （打扰） while enjoying the paintings．

    I met them several {#blank#}3{#/blank#}as I moved through the different rooms of the art museum．Each time I heard her talking，I moved {#blank#}4{#/blank#}quickly．

    I was {#blank#}5{#/blank#}for some gifts at the museum shop when the couple walked slowly to the exit （出口）．Before they left，the man {#blank#}6{#/blank#}out a cane （拐杖）．Then he tapped （轻敲） his way to the coatroom to {#blank#}7{#/blank#}the jacket for his wife．

    "He is a brave man，"the worker of the shop said．"He decided not to change his life after his eyes got hurt．Though he is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}now，he never gives up．He and his wife come here whenever there is a new art show．"

    "But what can he get out of the art？He can't see!"I asked．

    "You are wrong．He {#blank#}9{#/blank#}a lot，more than you and I do．"The worker said，"His wife describes {#blank#}10{#/blank#}painting so he can see it in his mind．"

    I fell silent．Then I realized that I learnt something about patience，courage and love that day．

    Do you know what American students have to do in their school? In America, at the beginning of the term, students must choose their c{#blank#}1{#/blank#} and teachers first. While in China students usually have no chances（机会）to choose.

    C{#blank#}2{#/blank#} is very important for your grades in America. So at the first term, don't choose too many courses, o{#blank#}3{#/blank#} you'll feel very nervous and it may influence your study. Then you have to ask for some teaching plans. There is some information about subjects, time arranging (安排), marks and t{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. At the same time, you must choose the teachers. Different teachers have d{#blank#}5{#/blank#} teaching ways. If the teacher is called "killer" by the last grade, many students will give up choosing him. Because this kind of teacher will leave too m{#blank#}6{#/blank#} homework, too many exams and give too low grades.

    There is a{#blank#}7{#/blank#} thing after you choose the courses and the teachers. It is hard for each student to buy textbooks. The textbooks in America are very e{#blank#}8{#/blank#}. Each copy is about $30~50. In order to save money, many students buy some used textbooks, and some students usually borrow textbooks f{#blank#}9{#/blank#} the school library. You must get ready before classes. In class, discussing is very important. The teachers e{#blank#}10{#/blank#} you to raise questions or show your own opinions. They don't usually ask you to sit well. I{#blank#}11{#/blank#}, they allow you to sit or stand everywhere you like. They don't give you much homework to do. You can learn some knowledge and do exercises by yourself.
