Many people have cars in the city. But pollution is a problem because of the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Nowadays some downtown (市中心) areas around the world don't have cars. These car-free zones (无车区) are{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for people, bicycles, and public transportation only.

     Eight million people{#blank#}3{#/blank#} in the center of London and another two million people go to work there every day. The downtown area is very{#blank#}4{#/blank#} with hundreds of cars, buses, and taxis, but there are {#blank#}5{#/blank#}a lot of beautiful parks with free music concert. At lunchtime, many people go there for a rest {#blank#}6{#/blank#} they get off work.

     Parts of Tokyo are always crowded with hundreds of people - but no cars! These modern car-free zones are{#blank#}7{#/blank#} popular and people like shopping there.

     In the past, Bogota was polluted because there{#blank#}8{#/blank#}lots of cars and traffic. Now the downtown area is car-free zone and the air is{#blank#}9{#/blank#}! Many people don't have a car and half a million people take the bus{#blank#}10{#/blank#}. There are lots of stores. It's not expensive.

    Is it good for students to do housework? Some people think students need not do a{#blank#}1{#/blank#} housework. They think the o{#blank#}2{#/blank#} thing students need do is to study well. I don't think so. It is good for students to do some housework for three r{#blank#}3{#/blank#}.

    Firstly, to do some housework can m{#blank#}4{#/blank#} you independent（独立的）. You can't depend on（依靠） others all your life. So, you should l{#blank#}5{#/blank#} to do some housework now. Secondly, to do some housework can k{#blank#}6{#/blank#} you healthy and strong, some hard housework can be treated as a kind of physical（身体的）e{#blank#}7{#/blank#}. Finally, to do some house work can s{#blank#}8{#/blank#} your parents' work. They must be happy if you say “Have a r{#blank#}9{#/blank#}, and I will do the housework for you.”

    So sometimes it is not b{#blank#}10{#/blank#} for students to do some housework.

    Every summer Carol travels a lot by herself and visits new places. Last August she had a {#blank#}1{#/blank#} vacation, so she was on a tour of four countries in Europe. Europe was beautiful but her vacation wasn't very nice. She was in each country only for three days. She visited too many museums and was always {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. After her vacation she was tired and bored. This summer she is going to spend her vacation in a   {#blank#}3{#/blank#} way. She is going to travel to one country in Asia with friends and visit only one city.     She was a student at a secondary school. The school was across the street from my house. Every day， I w{#blank#}1{#/blank#} her play basketball after school from my house. She played very well，b{#blank#}2{#/blank#} than any one of her classmate. And she never stopped. She practised over and over again， sometimes u{#blank#}3{#/blank#} dark.

One day， I asked her， "Why do you practise so hard? You are playing very well."

"That's b{#blank#}4{#/blank#}．I want to play in the city basketball team，" She looked d{#blank#}5{#/blank#} into my eyes and said. "But I'm still not good enough. I must work hard." I was moved by her great c{#blank#}6{#/blank#}.

     Another day， I saw her crying on the grass，i{#blank#}7{#/blank#} of playing basketball. I walked across the street and sat down by her side.

"Why are you crying， girl?" I asked.

"The c{#blank#}8{#/blank#} of the city basketball team told me I couldn't go on playing basketball because I was too short."

     But some days later I saw her playing basketball again， practising e{#blank#}9{#/blank#} harder than before. I was curious and asked her the reason.

"My father told me if my d{#blank#}10{#/blank#}is big enough， nothing can stop me."

    I was moved again.

    Last week I took a train home. My friend gave me her newspaper and {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (say) there was an article(文章) I would like. I opened the newspaper. I saw a picture of a little girl and her mother, and there were some words {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the picture. It {#blank#}3{#/blank#} "Mom, do caterpillars (毛虫) know they become butterflies (蝴蝶), or does God surprise them? "I was very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (surprised) to see these words. They let me remember something about myself.

    Two years ago, doctors told me that {#blank#}5{#/blank#} was very difficult for me to be a mother. But I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (real) wanted to be a mom. Would God surprise me and let me have a {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (child)? After two weeks, it was Christmas Day. My husband gave me a present. It was a butterfly ring. I liked it very much. A few {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (day) later, I learned I was pregnant (怀孕的). I had waited for four years. Finally, I had my own baby. Life is full of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (hope).
