Michael Jackson (1958-2009) spent many of his later years alone in a mansion called Neverland. The name “Neverland” is taken from the children's story Peter Pan.It's about boy who never grows up.Cruel critics of Jackson thought he was like Peter Pan,but that he was childish rather than childlike. They laughed at his taste, his clothes and his pet chimpanzee,Bubbles.

But perhaps Jackson acted like a child because he hadn't had a proper childhood. He began to work as a professional singer at the age of 9, performing with a group made up of his brothers.Besides working with this group. The Jackson Five,be also had a solo career. He didn't choose to make music like this;he was under a lot of pressure from his father and the music business. He started young and began to sell lots of records while he was still young. With this kind of pressure, who can blame him for living in his own way once he'd become an adult and gotten rich enough lo do what he liked?

His great originality came from the fact that he wrote, performed and recorded music that appealed to different communities. Before there had been “white” music and “black” music. But Jackson made “crossover” music, songs that had parts of funk, rock ‘n' roll and disco in them.He broke down a lot of barriers with this approach.A great example of this “crossover” style is the song Beat It.It has guitars like rock music, but it also has a beat like disco music.

If you look up the Beat It video on the Internet, you'll understand another reason for his fame.He made imaginative music that went well with equally imaginative videos.Beat It is,in part, about a war between young gangs. Jackson and his team made a great job of showing the rival gangs facing each other. You also see great dancing, and Jackson shows off his strong sense of fashion.Jackson was as much a video artist as a music artist.

This is why he was such a hit not just in the United States, but also globally.People loved his music and videos everywhere. He had a great effect on so many household names.Britney Spears,Justin Bieber and many others. In all of them you can find the combination of catchy danceable music and great videos that Jackson started. His music videos were must-see TV,and young would-be artists learned that it took more than just holding a microphone if they really wanted to make it big.

Dear Graham,

My partner and I have recently lost a pet quite suddenly. Normal life is continuing with so much sadness for my pet meant so much to me. Lots of people won't understand my feeling this way about the death of an animal. This obviously isn't the first time someone in my life has passed away: when I was younger we lost elderly relatives who I loved very much, and naturally much-loved family pets died occasionally too. But this has hit me so much harder. I put so much love into the relationship and I'm just finding it hard to get my head around the fact that it's gone.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

ANON, VIA EMAIL

Dear Anon,

Something you loved deeply has gone from your life, so of course you are sad. We love our pets differently from family members or friends and part of that is because we know they will probably die before us. Our time with our dogs or cats is precious precisely because we understand it is limited.

As humans, we go through most of life understanding we would die one day. But animals don't. We are the keeper of the secret. Of course, living a life unencumbered(不受妨碍) by thoughts of death means that our pets, in general, lead very simple, happy lives. It's one of the reasons why they are such a joy to be round. You are, of course, correct when you say that many people don't understand your grief, so don't talk to them. Share your feelings with like-minded souls. I'm sure a simple search online will reveal many practical advice for moving on.

And when you are ready, you can welcome another animal into your life and then you will enjoy happiness again.

In this day and age, you can practically do anything with the help of the Internet. While chatting with a stranger may seem new and exciting, make sure that you stay safe while still having fun.

While there are some unpleasant people in the world, let's remember that most people are friendly! If you find someone who likes the same restaurant as you or who is also crazy about Gilmore Girls, then feel free to talk the night away! Just keep the conversation light and talk about your common interests. If a topic that doesn't fit well with you is brought up, keep in mind that you are always in control. Under no circumstances should you be forced to talk or think about anything inappropriate. Ignore your manners at this time!

Do stay open-minded. Sometimes chatting with strangers can turn into a close bond—or just another person you can turn to for a laugh. But when you are typing away in your computer, it's easy for you to get carried away and to tell your new friends all about yourself. Keep the personal details secret, and instead talk about fun hobbies or the latest episode (一集) of The Good Wife.

Always listen to your instincts (直觉). If something inside of you is telling you something isn't right, it probably isn't. Pay attention to how your body responds to certain people online. Remember, you never really know who you are talking to just by looking at a computer screen name, so downloading anything is absolutely no.

See? Talking to strangers online doesn't always have to be appalling experience. By following these do's and don'ts, chatting with someone you don't know can be cool and pleasant, and can make sure that you stay safe in the world of the Internet.

It's pleased to receive gifts from your loved ones. I have received many Christmas gifts over the years. But the best gift I ever received was presented to me by a stranger. I never even knew his name and I only had contact with him for less than 60 seconds. His Christmas present to me changed the way I had thought about people and Christmas.

It was several years ago when my wife asked me to meet her at the local department store on Black Friday morning. They had advertised a child's bike that she wanted to purchase for our son. We stood with a very large crowd, waiting for the manager to blow the whistle. After a while, the whistle blew. It was like throwing a bucket of fish into a tank of sharks. I told my wife that if we obtained a bike, fine, but if we did not, I was OK with that too.

As the shelf of bikes began to gradually decrease in size, I saw my polite opportunity to wrap my hands around the corner of one of the boxes. I lifted it off the box and suddenly felt some mild resistance. I looked up to see one of the largest gentlemen I had ever seen in my life. Threat was not the word to describe his presence. He was decorated with numerous belts of metal pointed leather around both arms and even his neck. Tattoos (文身) were an obvious passion of his.

I started to return anxiously the box but he gently pushed it back in my direction and back into my hands. He then directed it into my shopping cart. He looked at me, smiled, and said, “Merry Christmas.” My wife and I went to the checkout, paid for the bike and went home. All the way home I was thinking that this moment was by far the best Christmas gift I had ever received. The kindness of a stranger that broke all previous views I may have had of stereotypes and prejudices. I will never forget the tenderness of a human heart in a simple act.

In recent decades there has been a strong push in American education to prepare all high school students for college. As a result, fewer and fewer young people are pursuing careers as skilled tradesmen. But teens should be encouraged to consider learning a trade.
The average cost of a bachelor's degree is $127,000 and 70 percent of students apply for some form of student loans to help cover this cost. On average, loan borrowers graduate with $37,172 in debt. The average trade school degree, on the other hand, costs only $33,000 – less than what many four-year degree holders will still owe after graduation.
I have a friend who is a highly educated college professor. He makes a comfortable living, and of course he loves his work, but recently as we discussed his own children's future career plans, it was my friend who raised the idea of pursuing a trade school degree. He told me that every time he calls his plumber (水暖工), the plumber answers his phone from his yacht(游艇).
Of course not every tradesman can earn a yacht-buying salary, but there are a number of skilled professionals that can earn six figures.
It's widely believed that academics are more valuable than physical or skilled work. Fortunately, there has been an effort to change that message in recent years and to restore dignity to trade education and tradesmen. Still, that message is going to be reinforced in classrooms and at home so that all students will recognize the beauty and value of possessing a skill, of being able to make something with one's own hands, and of offering a service that makes other people's lives not only better, but in many cases, possible.
