Mary: Hey, Alexis, I am glad you came over to my house to study for our coming Math exam.  I have gone over all my notes, but I am still not confident enough.

Alexis: Yes, this test is going to be hard.  But I haven't had time to study the notes yet. Let's do a review together, starting from Chapter One (第一章). OK?

Mary:  Let's do it!

Alexis: Well, do you remember what content (内容) was covered in the first chapter?

Mary: I don't know, Alexis! I am not good at writing quickly. I always have difficulties putting my thoughts on paper. I've worked hard to improve my math skills, but I still have a long way to go.

Alexis: I do not think that is your problem.  Things can get worse when you start to feel nervous.

Mary: Thanks for your advice. When we are done with this, I will test you on Chapter Two.

There were two fishermen who were close friends. Since they were busy in their personal work and family, they hardly spend time together. It was a Saturday and they decided to drive to a nearby pond to enjoy their day in fishing. Also, they wanted to have some feast with the fish they caught.

After they reached the pond, they sat at a distance and started hunting for fish. The first fisherman got a big and beautiful fish in a few minutes. He decided to cook the fish as a whole fish at noon. He spent some more time and caught a few more fish. He decided to make a grand meal with the fish. Also, he froze a few fish to take them back home.

It was almost more than an hour since they fished. He then went to the second fisherman and asked him if he needed any help. The second man said no. In a few minutes, the second fisherman caught a large fish. However, he put that back into the lake.

The first man was surprised at his act. He remained silent. The second man caught many big fish, but he just put back all those fish into the lake.

Very annoyed by his act, the first fisherman angrily asked him, “Are you mad? Why do you put your fish back into the water? They were beautiful and big!”

The second fisherman replied, “I know they were big, but I don't have the big pan to cook the big fish! So I'm looking for a smaller fish that fits my cooking pan! God is troubling me today.”

By hearing this, the first fisherman was surprised. He advised the second fisherman to cut the big fish into small pieces to suit in the pan and cook them properly.

Many people are just like the second fisherman. We are provided with handful of big opportunities, chances and even fortune that we many times overlook. We need to work out just the same like the big fish fit into a small pan!

Answer the questions.

There has been a lot of talk about Chinese bicycle sharing recently. Shared bikes are nowadays becoming the centre of attention in our We Chat friend circle. Many of our friends post photos of themselves riding bikes, especially during the weekend in natural parks, and we can see people logging in and out of shared bike apps. But are people really drawn to(被....所吸引) the idea of exercise and green transportation all of a sudden?

Some people have tried Mobikes lately, and they don't particularly like Mobikes. They think the first generation Mobikes, the ones without baskets, are designed for athletes. They are very hard to ride, and the seat is not adjustable(可调节的). Then, they tried the yellow ofo bikes. They are easier to ride than Mobikes, but they don't usually have baskets, and you need to enter the password by hand, instead of scanning a QR code and having the lock open automatically like with Mobikes.

We appreciate that there are shared bikes on the roads. They have saved us a lot of time during emergency situations. And on beautiful, clear days, we do enjoy riding them outside the city. But from what we've seen in our friend circles, people have been giving them endless praises, while we still saw some obvious flaws (缺陷).

In our experience, there has never been a unanimous(一致的) decision on anything in public opinion. It makes us wonder whether these people really like riding shared bikes or are just saying this to agree with others. When we asked them individually, a friend of us, Lisa, secretly told us she tried the bikes to fit in(融入朋友圈). She doesn't like bikes and finds city's roads too harsh for bike riding. But the only way to hang out with her friends was riding out of town together. To join in social activities, she had to pick up bike riding again. Another young man, Simon admitted that he started talking about and forwarding information(转发信息) on shared bikes to appear cool and fashionable to friends. He started paying attention when Mobikes firs launched(推出). These views will give us something new to think about when we ride these bikes again.

Can you remember a time when somebody was kind to you? Maybe a stranger allowed you to go in front of him in a queue. Or perhaps a friend helped you in a much deeper way. There are a million ways to offer kindness.

    Why should we be kind?

Being kind is a win-win situation. It brings happiness to both the receiver and the doer of this kind action. Let's imagine you have a workmate who always does a very good job. How about taking a moment to mention this to him? Your workmate will be happy to receive some praise, and you will probably feel good about yourself for having spread a little joy.

What are "random acts of kindness"?

Many organizations encourage people to do kind acts whenever and wherever possible. Their idea is that it doesn't take any plan to be kind, just a little bit of effort. Perhaps the strongest supporters of this idea are the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK)Foundation, who work with schools and companies to teach people kindness skills. They believe that kindness can be taught.

    How can I be kind?

The RAK website suggests some ways to show kindness. Generally, they fall into three categories(类别). The first is interpersonal kindness, like donating old clothes to charity or writing a positive online comment about a restaurant. The second is environmental kindness, which could mean recycling or cleaning a local park. The third category is personal kindness, which means treating yourself kindly, such as taking a walk in nature or treating yourself to a big meal. By being kind to yourself, you will be kinder to the world around you.

    What is World Kindness Day?

World Kindness Day takes place on 13November. People in many countries celebrate this day by being kind and having lots of fun. One typical event is to use "kindness cards".You hand a kindness card to somebody when you do a kind act for him. Then it is his turn to pass on the card by doing a kind act for another person.

Being kind has a sort of ripple(涟漪)effect. This means that one kind action leads to more and more. So don't wait for kindness to find you, go and start a new ripple!
