During all this time I never stopped thinking about escape. When I traveled across to the other side of the island (岛屿), I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, “Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day.”
So I decided to make myself a boat. I cut down a big tree, and then began to make a long hole (洞) in it. It was hard work, but about six months later, I had a very fine canoe (独木舟). Next, I had to get it down to the sea. How silly I was! Why didn't I think before I began work? Of course, the canoe was too heavy. I couldn't move it! I pulled and pushed and tried everything, but it didn't move. I was very unhappy for a long time after that.
That happened in my fourth year on the island. In my sixth year I did make myself a smaller canoe, but I did not try to escape in it. The boat was too small for a long journey, and I did not want to die at sea. The island was my home now, not my prison, and I was just happy to be alive. A year or two later, I made myself a second canoe on the other side of the island. I also built myself a second house there, and so I had two homes.
My life was still busy from morning to night. There were always things to do or to make. I learnt to make new clothes for myself from the skins of dead animals. They looked very strange, it is true, but they kept me dry in the rain.
I kept food and tools (工具) at both my houses, and also wild goats (山羊). There were many goats on the island, and I made fields with high fences to keep them in. They learnt to take food from me, and soon I had goats' milk to drink every day. I also worked hard in my corn (玉米) fields. And so many years went by.

    After breakfast Mrs. Beckman started packing（打包）the bags. She bought the tickets to London. Her husband works there. She and her children are going to fly there to see him. Thomas and Katy can't help her and she told them to play outside.

    "It often rains in London in autumn," the woman said to herself, " I'd better take the umbrellas. So I won't buy any when it rains there."

Suddenly(突然), she heard Thomas crying and ran out at once. She asked, " What's the matter?"

    "Katy pulled(揪)my hair," the boy said in tears(眼泪汪汪地).

    "Don't be angry," said the woman. "She's too young. She doesn't know pulling hair hurts(疼痛)"

    And then she went to the house again. After a short time there was more crying. She had to come out to see what the matter was.

This time Thomas said, "Now she knows."

Vincent van Gogh was born in the Netherlands on March 30, 1853. During his 37 {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (year) lifetime, Vincent painted some of the most famous paintings of our time. 

Vincent van Gogh left school {#blank#}2{#/blank#} he was only 15 and then he went to England. There he began {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (work) as an art dealer (经销商). After seven years, Vincent became {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (happy) with his work and decided to be an art teacher at a school for boys. In the following years, Vincent went from job to job, living in different {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (city) in Europe. Finally in 1880, he went {#blank#}6{#/blank#} russels to begin studies in art. During {#blank#}7{#/blank#} next ten years, Vincent van Gogh painted 872 paintings. 

Vincent van Gogh is a world-famous {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (art) today, but not many people thought his paintings were great while he was alive. He only sold one painting during {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (he) lifetime For most of his life he was very poor, often {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (spend) his money on art supplies (用品) but not food. 

Hi, I'm Andy. I'm 30 years old. I'm a doctor, and I live at Scott Base. It's very cold here. At night it can be -50℃, and in the middle of the day it's only -20℃.

There are twelve people living here. There is a restaurant, a TV room, a small shop and 6 bedrooms — one bedroom is for two people. Jack is my roommate. He is very tidy and he cleans the bedroom every day. Most of the food is from New Zealand and we also eat fish from the sea.

We work 5 days a week. Every morning I go swimming in the sea. After work, I usually play football or watch TV. I also love watching birds.
